It’s the most anticipated game of the season so far. The formidable machine that is Manchester City against the former kings of Europe Barcelona, who have designs to reclaim their status as continental champions.
It’s a finely balanced game that could go either way – but here are five things that we can almost certainly expect from the Etihad this evening…
1.Yaya Toure to get booked
The Ivorian's power will hold little sway against the nimble little tiki-takarers in what will be a congested midfield battle. Frustrated at being given the run-around by his former team mates, Yaya is sure to lose his cool. Back any City player to be booked first at 1.80.
2. Alvaro Negredo to score
The Spain striker has been in red-hot form in the last few months and will be keen to shine against his countrymen. He scored against Barcelona last season when he was wearing the colours of Sevilla and, with Sergio Aguero still injured, Negredo is worth backing as first goalscorer at 6.50.
3. Barcelona not to win
Barca are winless in their last five away games against English sides in the Champions League (2 draws, 3 defeats). They face a side with a ruthlessly good home record and the odds are stacked against them. Back City on the 1X Double chance at 1.60.
4. Both teams to score
Messi, Negredo, Neymar, Dzeko, Iniesta, Jovetic, Pedro… and the list goes on. The Etihad will host some of the world’s finest attacking talent tonight, so we are sure to see goals at both ends. Back both teams to score at 1.47.
5. Negredo to score a headed goal
If Barca have a weakness, it’s defending set pieces. They’ve been undone in dead ball situations repeatedly this season and, if City are going to score a headed goal, it’s bound to be Senor Negredo with it. Back Negredo to score a headed goal at 10.00.
