Champions League Betting: Bayern Munich v Barcelona Preview

It's business time in the Champions League. After months of sparring and jostling for form, just four clubs remain. The first leg of the Spain vs Germany double bill gets underway on Tuesday night, with Barcelona travelling to Munich to face Jupp Heynckes' exciting side. This promises to be a thrilling game, with both sides prioritising attacking football.

Unibet's punters are putting their money on Bayern tonight. Some 67% of the total staked has gone on Bayern Munich at 2.10, with 12% backing the draw at 3.55 and the remaining 21% betting on an away win for Barcelona at 3.40.

Our customers also fancy Bayern to progress to the final, with 52% backing the Germans at 2.05, compared to the 48% putting their money on Barca at 1.72.

Team news

With neither side having much to play for domestically (Barcelona are well on their way to winning La Liga, Bayern have already wrapped things up in Germany), both managers have been able to rotate to preserve their best players. Lionel Messi is likely to be fit again for this game, meaning Cesc Fabregas, a scorer at the weekend, could miss out for Barcelona. Mario Mandzukic is suspended for this game, meaning Mario Gomez should make a rare start in attack. He won't provide quite the same work rate as the Croatian, but is arguably the better finisher.

While Bayern cruised past Juventus in their quarter-final, Barcelona needed the away goals rule to see off the challenge of PSG. Both sides, however, have been fairly imperious domestically: Bayern have a goal difference of +75 in the Bundesliga, while Barcelona have seen off the challenge of Real Madrid with some ease. Something has to give in Munich.

Goalscorer betting

Gomez (2.65 anytime) is the obvious pick for the hosts: he'll look to profit from the creative skills of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Muller and Franck Ribery. David Alaba is a more daring choice at 5.75, but could reward punters; he likes to shoot from range and takes penalty kicks. For Barcelona, Messi is 7.00 to score twice or more, while David Villa can be backed at 7.50 to score last.

This match should be played in the right spirit, with both sides looking to control possession. While Bayern will hope to keep Barcelona out, both teams to score looks a solid bet at 1.65. Bayern should just prevail at 2.15, but this one will be decided in the return leg at the Camp Nou.

Score prediction: Bayern 2-1 Barcelona (9.50)
