Champions League Betting: Group E Tips

Shakhtar Donetsk 2.45, the draw 3.30, Chelsea 2.85 (19:45 kick-off)

Roberto Di Matteo's side bounced back well from the disappointing home draw with Juventus in gameweek one, dispatching Nordsjælland with some aplomb. Shakhtar, however, who have accrued considerable Champions League experience over the last decade, will provide a much stiffer challenge. Mircea Lucescu's Brazilian-heavy squad earnt a draw in Turin last time out, and pride themselves on giving Europe's biggest teams a run for their money at home.

With both sides potent in attack and slightly suspect at the back, over 2.5 goals looks great value at 2.00. For a little more insurance, both teams to score can also be backed at 1.72. In the match outcome market, the draw looks the most attractive, although Chelsea (Draw No Bet) will surely attract some punters at 2.00.

For a longer-odds bet, consider backing Shakhtar's Henrikh Mkhitaryan to find the net. The Armenian has scored six goals in his last eight outings for club and country, and is available at 3.90 to notch anytime. For Chelsea, in-form Juan Mata is at 4.50 to score the opener, while Oscar can be backed at the same price to add to his Champions League tally.

Score prediction: Shakhtar 2-2 Chelsea (15.00)

Nordsjælland 8.50, the draw 5.00, Juventus 1.35 (19:45 kick-off)

The North Zealand minnows gave a decent account of themselves in gameweek one against Shakhtar, but the 4-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea showed that they are out of their depth at this level. This week's visitors to Denmark are Juventus, who are sitting pretty at the top of Serie A. Antonio Conte's side have lost just one match in the last year, and have firmly re-established themselves among Europe's elite

The 1.35 available on the Juve win is a little skinny, so the clever punter will look for a little more value elsewhere. The Turin giants have kept four domestic clean sheets so far this season, and would fancy repeating that trick on Tuesday even if goalkeeper Gigi Buffon is sidelined through injury. Juventus are 2.20 to win without conceding, which looks a solid bet.

The huge range of strikers at Conte's disposal means that it makes more sense to look at midfielders in the goalscorer market. The set piece prowess of Arturo Vidal (penalties) and Andrea Pirlo (free-kicks) gives them the edge - they are available at 4.80 and 5.75 respectively to find the net against Nordsjælland. If you fancy the hosts to nick a goal, Joshua John looks the obvious choice; the Dutchman has eight league goals to his name from just nine games.

Score prediction: Nordsjælland 0-2 Juventus (6.75)
