Champions League Betting: Group E Tips

Chelsea 2.00, the draw 3.40, Shakhtar Donetsk 3.75 (19:45 kick-off)

One thing's for sure: Chelsea won't be taking their Ukrainian visitors lightly at Stamford Bridge. Shakhtar were superb in their gameweek three win over Roberto Di Matteo's side, to the extent that the 2-1 scoreline flattered Chelsea. Experienced campaigners at this level, they will be keen to stay at the top of the Group E table.

Both teams to score (1.60) looks a decent bet, given the attacking potency and defensive lapses that have defined Chelsea's season thus far. Given that Chelsea's confidence has been dented by recent results against Manchester United (2-3) and Swansea (1-1), and that Shakhtar will look to keep things tight early on, it may be worth backing the half-time draw at 2.20.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan came close to netting against Chelsea in the Ukraine, and has amassed 14 goals in 12 league starts this term. The Armenian is at 3.70 to score at Stamford Bridge. For Chelsea, back Oscar to continue his goalscoring run in the competition at 4.00.

Score prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Shakhtar (9.00)

Juventus 1.15, the draw 7.50, Nordsjælland 17.50 (19:45 kick-off)

The odds available on this game hints at a perceived gulf in class between these two sides, but the 1-1 draw in Denmark last time out showed that Nordsjælland are no pushovers. Juve will be reeling from the loss to Inter at the weekend (which brought an end to a 49-game unbeaten run in Serie A), however, and will surely look to take their anger out on the visitors.

Given the odds on the outright win, value should be sought elsewhere. The 1.67 on Juventus to net in both halves looks appealing, as does Juventus/Juventus HT/FT at 1.57. If you think Antonio Conte will tighten up his defence after a poor performance against Inter, you can back the Old Lady to win without conceding at 1.65.

Arturo Vidal scored Juve's only goal at the weekend, and is always a threat with his late surges into the area. Both he (3.80) and Claudio Marchisio (2.45) are solid bets in the anytime scorer market. For the visitors, the prolific Joshua John is the man to look at. He's at 20.00 to open the scoring.

Score prediction: Juventus 2-0 Nordsjælland (7.00)
