Champions League Betting: Group G Tips

Spartak Moscow 2.85, the draw 3.30, Benfica 2.50 (17:00 kick-off)

While traditionally strong at Stadion Luzhniki, Spartak are on an awful run at present; they've lost their last three, and eight of their last 15. Benfica are motoring along nicely in Portugal and will be hopeful of adding to their single Group G point in Moscow.

The best betting angle in this one is for both teams to score. This bet would have won you money in 12 of Spartak's last 13 games, and although Benfica are yet to score in Group G they have more than enough about them to trouble the hosts. Odds of 1.62 won't make you rich, but you could do far worse this week.

Nigerian striker Emmanuel Emenike will lead the line for the hosts, and will be full of confidence following his brace against Celtic. The 7.00 available on him to open the scoring looks good value, as does the 18.00 for Dmitri Kombarov to score; the Russian has four goals to his name this season and is always a threat from range.

Score prediction: Spartak 1-1 Benfica (6.75)

Barcelona 1.08, the draw 11.00, Celtic 22.00 (19:45 kick-off)

Celtic picked up their first ever away win in the Champions League against Spartak last time out, a result that boosted their chances of sneaking into the knockout stages. Can they follow it up at Camp Nou? Realistically not. Barcelona may have wobbled slightly of late (being pushed by Spartak and Sevilla, conceding four against Deportivo La Coruña) but only Real Madrid have managed to take any points of them thus far.

The 1.08 available on the Blaugrana will tempt very few punters, though, meaning we should look elsewhere for some value. Barcelona (-2 handicap) is a more appealing option at odds of 1.65, as is the 1.55 for the hosts to win without conceding. Another option is to dutch a few correct score markets - 3-0, 4-0 and 5-0 look the most likely outcomes.

Lionel Messi is obviously the pick in the goalscorer markets; consider backing him to hit three or more at 4.00. Pedro shone for Spain during the international break and is at 5.25 to net the first goal against Neil Lennon's side. If you do fancy Celtic to grab a goal, Kris Commons (8.75to score anytime) is probably the way to go.

Score prediction: Barcelona 4-0 Celtic (7.00)
