Champions League Betting Preview: Arsenal to hold firm in Dortmund

Defeat in Dortmund tonight would be a costly blow to Arsenal’s hopes of finishing top of Group F.

Dortmund’s 2-1 victory at the Emirates last time out has thrown the group wide open, with Napoli also returning to contention with a win. Quite simply, Arsenal must avoid defeat to stay in the mix – but it won’t be easy.

The Gunners will be without the injured Jack Wilshere, while Theo Walcott has not yet recovered from abdominal surgery. But Kieran Gibbs is passed fit after a hip problem.

Though Arsenal are in need of a result here, they will not go gung-ho for the win. It could be a cagier game than many expect, and under 2.5 goals at 2.50 is appealing

Charismatic Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for his opposite number: "Arsene Wenger is really something. He is Sir Arsene Wenger," Klopp said. "But he likes having the ball, playing football, passing it. It is like an orchestra but it is a quiet song. I prefer heavy metal. I always want it loud."

Wenger will be hoping he can orchestrate a victory for Arsenal, who have never won at Signal Iduna Park in two attempts.

Key battle

Marco Reus vs Laurent Koscielny

Koscielny still has his doubters and this will be a stern test for the Frenchman. He didn’t look wholly convincing against the intelligent movement of Reus at the Emirates and, at home, Reus will have plenty of freedom. If the dynamic German is allowed to exert his influence on the game, it could be another long night for the Gunners defence.

Score prediction: Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Arsenal (8.00)

Best bet: Under 2.5 goals at 2.50
