Champions League Betting: Tuesday Tips

Spartak Moscow 1.57, the draw 3.60, Celtic 6.40

Unai Emery's Spartak side were unlucky not to get anything from their Group G opener against Barcelona, but will be confident of getting points on the board when Celtic travel Russia. The Scottish champions may be cruising domestically, but drew a blank at home to Benfica a fortnight ago. Expect the hosts to dictate play at the Stadion Luzhniki, with midfielder Romulo pulling the strings. Spartak should win, but it may be worth backing both teams to score at 1.78, given the hosts haven't kept a clean sheet for nine matches.

Score prediction: Spartak 2-1 Celtic (8.50)

BATE 8.50, the draw 4.75, Bayern Munich 1.35

Two in-form sides meet in Borisov, hoping to build on impressive results in their opening Champions League games. BATE, who dispatched Lille with some panache, will know they need to be at their best to challenge a Bayern side who have yet to drop points in any competition this season. While the odds on the draw are tempting, a better option may be to look at the goalscorer market. Mario Mandzukic, a summer signing from Wolfsburg, has hit the ground running for the German giants, scoring six goals in as many matches. The 3.60 available on him opening the scoring is worth considering, as is the 4.75 on him scoring a header.

Score prediction: BATE 1-3 Bayern (12.50)

Benfica 5.50, the draw 4.20, Barcelona 1.55

Barcelona needed two late goals (and some pathetic Cesc Fabregas acting) to beat Sevilla at the weekend, turning in a performance that again hinted at their defensive vulnerability. Benfica, however, who were robbed of their two best midfielders (Axel Witsel and Javi Garcia) late in the transfer window, may not be the best team to profit. They may be leading the way in Portugal, but their squad looks slightly lightweight despite the presence of skilful operators like Pablo Aimar and Nico Gaitan. Barcelona should win this, but expect the hosts to make it difficult. Draw/Barcelona on the HT/FT market may be the best bet, at 5.00

Score prediction: Benfica 0-2 Barcelona (8.75)

CFR Cluj 5.50, the draw 3.75, Manchester United 1.60

Those looking to bet on an outsider on Tuesday should certainly consider this game. CFR were majestic against Braga two weeks ago, scoring two breakaway goals and defending stoutly to record a memorable win. United, meanwhile, looked sluggish against Galatasaray, and were lucky to earn all three points at Old Trafford. The Red Devils should enjoy the lion's share of possession in Romania, but they will struggle to break down a dogged, organised side. Back the draw at half-time at 2.25, or back CFR with a one-goal handicap at 2.24.

Score prediction: CFR 1-1 Manchested United (7.50)

Nordsjælland 8.50, the draw 4.75, Chelsea 1.35

The reigning champions take on the tournament minnows in an intriguing match-up in Denmark. This is Nordsjælland's first home game in the Champions League proper, and they will surely be looking just to enjoy the occasion against a Chelsea side who look clear favourites. The 1.35 available on Roberto Di Matteo's side isn't particularly tempting, so consider backing them to overcome a one-goal handicap at 2.06. Another bet to consider is on Victor Moses to open his Chelsea account. RDM could rotate, and the 4.50 available on the pacy forward looks big.

Score prediction: Nordsjælland 0-3 Chelsea (10.50)

Galatasaray 1.80, the draw 3.45, Braga 4.30

The Turkish giants host Braga, with both sides looking to bounce back after losses in the opening gameweek. With Braga not particularly good travellers (they've picked up two wins in their last ten games away from home) and the Ali Sami Yen Stadium renowned for being a difficult place to get a result, the smart money would seem to be on the home win. To sweeten the odds, back them to win to nil at 3.30.

Score prediction: Galatasaray 2-0 Braga (9.25)

Juventus 1.52, the draw 4.00, Shakhtar Donetsk 6.00

The Italian champions impressed at Stamford Bridge a fortnight ago, but face a tricky tie with seasoned Champions League campaigners Shakhtar. The visitors have been in good goalscoring form - averaging almost three goals a game throughout August and September - and will be confident of testing Juve's three-man defence. With the hosts also strong in attack, back over 2.5 goals at 1.85 and consider a small stake on over 3.5 at 3.10.

Score prediction: Juventus 3-2 Shakhtar (26.00)

Valencia 1.60, the draw 3.80, Lille 5.50

This looks like one of the easier games to predict this week. Valencia may have started their campaign with a loss, but are typically strong at the Mestalla, where they won two out of three in last year's group stage. Their cause will be helped by the poor form of visitors Lille, who were awful against BATE and sit 15th in Ligue 1. Back Valencia to score in both halves at 2.50.

Score prediction: Valencia 3-1 Lille (14.00)
