Despite bringing success to every club he's been at, Jose Mourinho always seems to somehow manage to upset his employers.
Rumour has it that the Portuguese might not be in Madrid beyond this season, as Real struggle in La Liga, well behind city-rivals Atletico and their fellow Spanish giants Barcelona.
So if Mourinho does move on to pastures new, where does he go next? We take a look at five possibilities.
5. Arsenal - 20.00
Arsenal haven't won a trophy in over seven years and few would seriously back them to reverse that trend this season. Arsene Wenger refuses to buy the sort of players that could make the Gunners great again and there is even a real risk that the club could miss out on Champions League qualification.
If Wenger's position becomes untenable, then Mourinho could be the man to bring back the glory days to Arsenal. It's true that his brand of football might not please the Arsenal supporters who have become used to the Wenger-aesthetic, but they might be willing ti trade the pretty football for good, old-fashioned results.
4. Paris St Germain - 6.00
If the right Premier League job doesn't become available, then perhaps Jose could be persuaded (by massive amounts of cash) to move to France with PSG.
Mourinho always has half an eye on his legacy, as he collects league titles aplenty from different countries. The challenge of adding France to that list and being given the budget to turn PSG into Champions League contenders, could be too much to resist.
3. Manchester United - 5.00
The prospect of Mourinho going to Manchester United is entirely dependent on when Sir Alex Ferguson decides to call it a day. We know that Fergie won't make the mistake again of announcing his retirement date, so when he does decide to quit Old Trafford, it will come as a shock.
Were it to happen this summer and with Pep Guardiola already committed to Bayern Munich, then the Glazers would surely consider turning to the one man who can rival Ferguson when it comes to winning titles.
2. Manchester City - 2.75
Or perhaps Mourinho will move across to the other side of Manchester and join City. Having been knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages, Roberto Mancini's job could be in danger, especially if he fails to retain the Premier League title.
Again, with Guardiola at Bayern, Mourinho is the standout candidate to turn Manchester City from England's best to Europe's best.
1. Chelsea - 2.75
Most intriguing of all is the prospect of Mourinho returning to Stamford Bridge. Despite being sacked by Roman Abramovich, Mourinho is rumoured to still be on friendly terms with the Russian and would be one of the few managers with the sufficient ego to believe that he could survive the Chelsea-axe in the short-term.
Guardiola's future is once again linked to Mourinho's. With Chelsea's number one target now in Germany, does Abramovich return to a manager that he knows he can trust to deliver him success?
