European Football Results: Tears flow as Beckham bows out

Oh, Becks. Becksy, Becksy, Becks. How we will miss your hair and your free-kicks and your not-quite-definable aura. The former England captain made his appearance of an illustrious career on Saturday night, captaining PSG in a 3-1 stroll against Brest. Beckham even had time to set up a goal, but the evening will be best remembered for the ovation he received after being substituted (see below). Someone pass the tissues.

The battle for the final Champions League qualification spot went down to the last day, with Fiorentina needing a slip-up from Milan. It briefly looked like they'd get their wish: Milan went behind to Siena, while Vincenzo Montella's side began racking up the goals against Pescara. But Milan dug deep, netting twice in the final ten minutes to frustrate the Viola (see below). Elsewhere, Inter's disappointing season ended on an appropriately bum note (2-5 vs Udinese), and Sampdoria shocked champions Juventus.

Differing fortunes for the Champions League finalists: Bayern Munich rounded off their season with a thrilling 4-3 win against Borussia Monchengladbach (see below), while Dortmund end the campaign on a run of three games without a win after a loss to Hoffenheim. Augsburg snuck clear of the relegation play-off place with a win over Gruether Furth, and there were also wins for Schalke and Leverkusen.

Atletico Madrid ended 14 years of hurt by beating city rivals Real to win the Copa del Rey (see below). In a niggly match at the Bernabeu it was Brazilian defender Miranda who made the difference, nodding home a Koke cross in extra time to hand Diego Simeone's side their first derby win since 1999. In La Liga, Barcelona beat Valladolid, while the sides locked in a battle for the final Champions League spot, Real Sociedad and Valencia, both picked up narrow wins. The latter are 1.53 to win that battle.
