There's something very alluring about Edinson Cavani. Maybe it's the long hair. Maybe it's those cheekbones. Maybe it's the fact that he was erroneously named after the man who invented the lightbulb.
Probably, though, it's just fact he is good at football. As in, ridiculously good at football. The Uruguayan has scored over 100 Serie A goals in the last five seasons, many of which came when he played for bottom-half scrappers Palermo. It's hardly surprising that Cavani, now a firm fan favourite at Napoli, is at the the centre of so much transfer speculation this summer.
Favourites for his signature are Chelsea (3.00). The Europa League champions certainly have money to spend and a new forward is a priority, with neither Demba Ba nor Fernando Torres quite cutting it last season. In fact, rumour has it that Torres could be reunited with Rafa Benitez in Naples as a makeweight for any deal. Stay tuned.
If Cavani doesn't fancy the hustle and bustle of London, Manchester City (4.00) is another option. With the futures of Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko uncertain, he would certainly be a fine recruit, although the instability caused by Roberto Mancini's departure could be a turn-off.
Real Madrid (5.00) are hardly lacking strikers, and the Bernabeu hasn't looked like the happiest of camps in recent months. Paris Saint-Germain (7.00) could probably offer the most wages and the potential for a mouth-watering partnership with Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Barcelona (20.00) and Manchester United (40.00) are outsiders.
Cavani could elect to stay in Italy, of course. If he does, Juventus (10.00) would be keen to add a first-rate striker to the side that has won the league for two seasons on the bounce. Maybe, though, Napoli can hold firm and keep their star player at 4.00.
Bet on Edinson Cavani's next club.
