Auxerre - PSG - Saturday 20.00 GMT live on Unibet TV
This is the last game of the season in France on Saturday evening at the Stade de France, and Paris Saint-Germain are the massive favourites against Second Division team Auxerre.
A win in this French Cup final and the Parisians would realise an incredible treble with the league and the league cup as well. No one has never done it before in the history of French football. But it would be even more incredible if Auxerre (9th in Ligue 2 this season) could beat them and prevent it from happening. However, it looks like Mission Impossible.
Champions for the third season in a row, the Parisians have won their last nine league games, a new club record. They are playing their best football of the season and in the last three months, they have been ruthless and really impressive. Edinson Cavani scored 12 goals in his last eight league matches. The defence is solid, the midfield is in top form with Thiago Motta back to his best and Marco Verratti and Blaise Matuidi in wonderful form. Javier Pastore has had a wonderful season too and has been rewarded by an Argentina call up for the Copa America next month, but he's suspended here.
Thiago Silva is a doubt after not training earlier this week but the captain should be fine to start this final. Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed the last Ligue 1 game last weekend against Reims (3-2) because of a calf injury. He is back now and will start on Saturday evening. It is a big boost for PSG to have him back. Everybody else is available. The team has cruised through this French Cup so far and don’t want to stop now. They will be totally focused but there is always a risk with them that they get a bit arrogant and take the match for granted.
However, the Cup is all about upsets and Auxerre have not really created many so far this season despite reaching the final.
Yes, they beat Ligue 1 team Guingamp in the semi-final but before that they all played lower league sides apart Brest (also Ligue 2) in the quarter-finals. They are not giant slayers and aren't used to beat bigger teams than them. Nevertheless, they still believe they can cause problems to PSG.
They have a mix of experience (Puygrenier, Diarra, Sammaritano) and of youth, from the club’s academy or not (Berthier, kilic, Mulumba). They will defend well, be compact at the back and try to hit the Parisians on the counter. They have also practiced penalties in the hope that they can defend well until the end. They have a great team spirit and they also hope that the Ligue 1 champions will take this game for granted and maybe not turn up at their best. That will be Auxerre’s best chance, but I still think that PSG will be far too strong for the minnows and will win the treble.
The odds are massively in favour of PSG with a win at 1.17. A draw is at 6.50 and an Auxerre win in 90 minutes is a massive 16.00! PSG are 1.06 to win the trophy and Auxerre 8.00.
My best tip is PSG to win both halves at 2.28.
Score prediction: Auxerre 0 PSG 3 at 6.50
