It's already been a hectic summer of transfers, with Luis Suarez joining Barcelona and James Rodriguez becoming Real Madrid's latest Galactico. But who's found the best value in the summer transfer market so far? Before Loic Remy joins Liverpool for £8million and Frank Lampard crosses the pond on a free to New York City FC, we thought we'd compile this list... Do you agree?
7. Ivan Rakitic to Barcelona - £16million
Rakitic has been impressing in La Liga with Sevilla for some time, so it’s no surprise that he secured a dream move to Barcelona for £16m. But it could prove to be a dream move for Barcelona, who are desperate to find their new star playmaker, given the sales of Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara this summer and last, respectively, and the ageing duo of Xavi and Andres Iniesta. Rakitic, 26, captained Sevilla to the Europa League last season and, at only 26, is the face of a new Barcelona.
6. Rio Ferdinand to QPR – Free
Ok, QPR aren’t going to get much mileage out of 36-year-old Rio, but he’ll bring some class and a wealth of experience to Loftus Road. QPR’s last stint in the Premier League was something of a shambles, but Harry Redknapp has certainly steadied the ship ahead of their latest bite at the cherry.
5. Daryl Janmaat to Newcastle – Around £6m
Janmaat is another player who impressed at the World Cup for the Netherlands. While he can play in a few positions, he is seen as a straight replacement for Mathieu Debuchy, who’s left for Arsenal. And at £6m, Newcastle fans cannot complain. Funny that all Newcastle’s good business has been done since Director of Football Joe Kinnear left the club.
4. Patrice Evra to Juventus - £1.2m
At 33, he may be another ageing star – but Evra hasn’t lost his talent overnight. Manchester United were perhaps a little hasty in letting Evra leave for only £1.2m and, while United worry about a top four finish next season, Evra will be back in the Champions League. Good business.
3. Ashley Cole to Roma – Free
No free transfer will be as valuable as Roma’s acquisition of Ashley Cole, who joins after being released by Chelsea. With 107 England caps, a record seven FA Cups, three Premier League titles and a Champions League under his belt, the 33-year-old is a bonafide winner. Will he prove that Chelsea were wrong to let him go?
2. Remy Cabella to Newcastle - £7.8m
Cabella was on Newcastle’s radar back in January and was priced closer to £12m at that time. The Magpies waited it out and have signed a very highly-rated player, who is seen as the heir to Cabaye’s throne.
1.Toni Kroos to Real Madrid - £20m
When you’ve got Adam Lallana going to Liverpool for £25m and Ander Herrera costing Manchester United £28m, it makes you wonder how Real Madrid were able to snap up Weltmeister Toni Kroos for a paltry £20m. Yes, he had only a year left on his Bayern contract and was eager for a new challenge, but Madrid have secured a World Cup winner and all-round brilliant midfielder for an absolute snip.
