Paris SG 1.48, the draw 4.20, Lyon 7.00
Last week was a nightmare for PSG with two defeats in a row for the first time this season.
Laurent Blanc was heavily criticized for his poor management and the key players (Edinson Cavani, Thiago Silva and Thiago Motta) were way below their usual level. The defeat at Chelsea hurt a lot and the one at Lyon added to the pain.
It didn’t change much in the league as the Parisians are still 10 points clear of Monaco with five league games to go and will be champions. What’s more important for them now is to do the double and win the League Cup, and they could get revenge on Lyon with a win on Saturday.
Blanc rotated his squad for the league game at the Gerland Stadium on Sunday but he will be back to his usual strongest XI this weekend. Maxwell, Lucas Moura and Marco Verratti will all come back in the team, and you can expect a different PSG.
They felt really bad after their defeat at Lyon and want to redeem themselves. Cavani missed four clear chances in that game, like he did at Chelsea, and in the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic - still injured - he needs to finally get it right.
Without Ibra, PSG have found it hard but they know they can’t lose a third game in a row. The pressure is on the players and the manager, with a lot of talk regarding his future. Blanc needs to deliver.
For Lyon, the win on Sunday was a massive boost.
They controlled the game so well, put a lot of pressure on their opponents and totally deserved to win, despite the absence of some key players (Clement Grenier, Yoann Gourcuff, Anthony Lopes, Gueida Fofana and Samuel Umtiti). They showed a great spirit and a much better organisation than Paris on the day.
They kept their great home run against PSG alive with just one defeat in their last nine encounters at the Stade Gerland. However, it’s always very different away from home. Apart from Umtiti, Lyon will have no players back for the final and have lost Bakary Kone (injured) and their midfielder Jordan Ferri, the goalscorer from Sunday, who is suspended.
They conceded some chances on Sunday and they know that on a better day, Cavani would have scored a hat-trick. They will need to get tighter defensively on Saturday.
However, they have a lot of confidence and to have to play a very different game than last Sunday. They are ready for a big fight but I think that PSG will come back fighting and will bounce back with a narrow win.
Cavani is favourite to score first at 3.80. My best tip though is under 1.5 goals to be scored in the game at 3.80.
Score prediction: Paris SG 1 Lyon 0 at 6.75
