Friday Night's Ligue 1 Preview: Cavani To Step Into Zlatan's Shoes

Last weekend was another crazy one in Ligue 1. Monaco lost for the second game in a row and are second from bottom in the table while Marseille were poor again, and PSG won but lost Zlatan Ibrahimovic for up to 4 weeks with a hip injury.

On Friday night, Zlatan’s team go to Evian without him:

Evian 9.00, the draw 4.75, PSG 1.37 – Live on Unibet TV from 19.30 GMT

On paper, it looks like a very straightforward game, from one extreme of the table to another. But the reality last season was totally different.

PSG lost away at Evian (2-0) in December, which was the champions' first league defeat of the season. The season before, under Carlo Ancelotti, they were also knocked out of the French Cup by the Savoyards. Evian also beat Monaco in the league last season. They clearly know how to perform in those big games.

However, their start of the season has been dreadful with two defeats and nine goals conceded (3-0 at home against Caen and 6-2 at Rennes). They are struggling for form and confidence, especially at the back where they have been dreadful. This is the perfect game for them to finally kick off their campaign. And PSG are fearing their trip there.

They have no Thiago Silva and Ibrahimovic and they know it will be tough. Edinson Cavani will start up front to replace Ibra, and will be under pressure to deliver in the position he has been asking to play in since joining the club. David Luiz had an encouraging debut last weekend against Bastia. He will lead the back four.

Even without their two best players, PSG look very strong. Their confidence is still very high and they are getting closer and closer to their best. I think they will win but they will have to work hard for it.

Cavani is favourite to score first at 4.00. My best tip though is the teams to be drawing at half time at 2.43.

Score prediction: Evian 0 PSG 2 at 7.00
