PSG - Nantes
PSG, host Nantes on Saturday evening for the last game of the season, at the Parc des Princes. The Parisians are already champions, of course, and they have been for a long time as well but they will want to finish the campaign with a big win and a great performance. They were not very motivated in midweek away at Bordeaux. They only drew 1-1 there on Wednesday with another goal from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, his 36th of the season in the league.
However, you can expect more motivation from the PSG players comes Saturday. In front of their fans and of a packed stadium, they will want to finish on a high. It has been an incredible season domestically for the club. They are now preparing for their French Cup final against Marseille on May 21st at the Stade de France. Laurent Blanc could still be without Matuidi, Cavani, Verratti and Pastore while Van der Wiel, out of contract in June, didn’t even make the squad on Wednesday. Blanc will start his strongest line up possible and Ibra will try to break the record of goals scored by a PSG player in a league season. Carlos Bianchi has the record with 37 goals back in 1978. Ibrahimovic only needs one goal to level it.
Nantes, 12th in the table, have nothing to play for anymore either this season. They will have a new manager next season, though, as René Girard has been chosen to replace Michel Der Zakarian. So it will be important for the players to try to impress the new manager who will be in the stands at the Parc des Princes. They have not won in Paris since 2002 and have conceded 12 goals in their last four visits in the capital! PSG will be too strong for them.
The odds are massively in favour of PSG with a home win at 1.25. The draw is at 6.50 and a Nantes away win is at 10.50.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is favourite to score first at 3.20. My best tip is PSG to win both halves at 2.50.
Score prediction: PSG 3 Nantes 0 at 9.00
Reims - Lyon
Lyon travel to Reims on Saturday, a week after their incredible performance against Monaco at home when they won 6-1 to book their place in the Champions League group stages next season as they are sure to finish 2nd this season. It was an amazing display by l’OL and they destroyed Monaco thanks to a Lacazette hat trick. He was outstanding and has now 21 league goals this season, six less only than last year. Lyon have great momentum since Bruno Genesio took over at the end of December.
At some point, they were 10 points behind Monaco and now they are three ahead. They will also want to finish the season well now and take their fantastic unbeaten run to 11 league games in a row. Mathieu Valbuena is still a doubt but the team is playing better without him anyway. At the back, Mapou Yanga Mbiwa has been very good in recent weeks and Lyon are solid again defensively and efficient up front. but they won’t take anything for granted in this game. They won their last two visits to the August Delaune Stadium in Reims but they know they will face a team facing to stay up this time.
There is indeed a lot at stake for Reims in this match. They are 19th in the table, just a point behind Toulouse in 17th so need a win to try to stay up. It might not be enough but it is still possible for them to remain in Ligue 1 next season. The stadium will be full and they will need all the support from the fans. Unlike Lyon, their form has been dreadful with four league defeats in a row now and six defeats and a win in their last seven Ligue 1 matches. There is not much hope for them against an in-form Lyon team but they will fight until the end and give their best. However, I dont think it will be enough as Lyon will be too strong for them.
The odds are in favour of Lyon with an away win at 2.05. A draw is at 3.75 and a Reims home win is at 3.40.
Alexandre Lacazette is favourite to score first at 5.20. My best tip is Lyon to win and both teams to score at 3.70.
Score prediction: Reims 1 Lyon 2 at 9.00
Monaco - Montpellier
Monaco will try to finish their season on a high against Montpellier at home on Saturday evening. They need a result to protect their third place in the table as well as arch rivals Nice could overtake them with a better result! It has been a tough week for Monaco and their manager Leonardo Jardim after their humiliating defeat against Lyon last weekend. They lost heavily and lost their place in the Champions League group stages next season.
They will have to go through the competitions playoffs and it will be tough for them. But now they need to focus on this crucial game. They cannot afford to finish 4th! Everything went wrong at Lyon last weekend, Jardim’s tactical choices, Traoré’s red card after 22 minutes, the dreadful defending… The Monégasques had never played as bad this season! They need to bounce back and will be motivated. However, Joao Moutinho is still not back from injury and it is a huge blow. Traoré is obviously suspended and Vagner Love could come in to replace him in the starting line up. Thomas Lemar, who played so well in the first half of the season but has hardly feature recently should start too. It is a must win game for Monaco.
On the other hand, Montpellier are already on holidays but they are still the most in form team in France with Lyon with four league wins in a row! They beat Rennes easily last weekend and have plenty of confidence and momentum since the arrival of manager Frédéric Hantz. After being in the relegation fight for most of the season, they are now 10th in the table and can finish in the top half. It would be great for them and I think they will cause problems to this Monaco side and the game will end with a draw.
The odds are massively in favour of Monaco with a home win at 1.37. A draw is at 4.60 and a Montpellier away win is at 9.75.
Vagner Love is favourite to score first at 4.60. My best tip is a draw and both teams to score at 6.00.
Score prediction: Monaco 2 Montpellier 2 at 18.00
Troyes - Marseille
Marseille visit Troyes on Saturday evening for the last game of their season. Troyes are already relegated and have been for a while but Marseille are still only 13th in the table after a terrible campaign. They will want to finish it as well as possible. last weekend against Reims (1-0), they won their first game in eleven attempts and their first at home since September! It was a big relief for the players, the club and the fans, even in a Stade Vélodrome partly closed.
The big objective now for Marseille is the French Cup final against PSG at the Stade de France on May 21st and this is the last game to prepare for the final. Franck Passi, the interim manager, is taking this game very seriously, like the players. They want to build on their win against Reims with the most confidence as possible to be ready for the PSG clash. Lasagne Diarra is fit and ready while Michy Batshuayi scored again last weekend and is back to his best after a long dip of form between November and April. He won’t play on Saturday as he is suspended so he played his last game for Marseille last weekend before being sold so he wants to finish well. Mandanda won’t start and will be rested while Diaby and Nkoudou are still injured. Romao, Batshuayi and Mendy are all suspended too.
Troyes have nothing to play for but they want to finish the season on a high too themselves. They have been dreadful all season and they want to offer a good finale to their fans and try to get a good result. But I think Marseille will continue their recovery with a win on Saturday.
The odds are massively in favour of Marseille with an away win at 1.58. A draw is at 4.10 and a Troyes home win is at 5.70.
Steven Fletcher is favourite to score first at 5.75. My best tip is Marseille to win without conceding a goal at 3.40.
Score prediction: Troyes 0 Marseille 2 at 11.00
