Lorient – PSG – Saturday 16:00 GMT
PSG travel to Lorient on Saturday afternoon after what has been a very traumatic few days for the club and the city. Paris was attacked by terrorists last Friday, killing 129 people and injuring over 300. The players will wear a special shirt for the occasion and it will an emotional game, even away from home. Javier Pastore and Salvatore Sirigu lost two friends in the attacks and everybody at the club has been affected by the tragedy.
The Parisians will have to try to focus on the game and to play to keep their unbeaten run this season. They are yet to lose and, even better, have won their last seven Ligue 1 matches. They are ten points clear at the top of the table too.
PSG have a great record away at Lorient, where they have not lost since 2008 in Ligue 1. But unlike their opponents, they had a lot of players away on international duty. Cavani and Luiz came back tired from long trips away as usual, while Ibrahimovic was Sweden’s hero during the Euro 2016 playoff against Denmark with three goals in two matches. Overall, he is in great form with at least a goal in each of his last six league matches. He has nine goals already in Ligue 1 this season in just the 8 games he played so far.
Laurent Blanc could rest some key players though, ahead of next week’s Champions League game at Malmo and Verratti is still out injured. For now, they will play to pay tribute to the victims of the attacks.
It won’t be easy mentally for the Parisians to cope with all the emotion but also because Lorient, seventh in the table before this weekend, are in top form too. They are unbeaten in their last five Ligue 1 games with four wins and a draw. They have the league’s joint top scorer in Benjamin Moukandjo, after he scored in six of his last eight Ligue 1 games. It will be a tough game for Lorient though, even at home, but I think that, considering the circumstances around the game, it will end in a draw.
The odds are massively in favour of PSG with an away win at 1.44. The draw is at 4.40 and a Lorient home win is at 7.70.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is favourite to score first at 4.00 but my best tip is the score to be 0-0 at half time at 3.10.
Score prediction: Lorient 1 PSG 1 at 10.00
Monaco – Nantes – Saturday 19:00 GMT
Monaco host Nantes on Saturday in a difficult environment. Prince Albert of Monaco has been critical of the club’s results this season, as well as the recruitment policy of the club. He is not happy that they find themselves in ninth place and have not been playing well at all. They have not scored two goals in the same game since the end of September.
The hosts lost two weeks ago, before the international break, at Bordeaux after a 1-1 draw three days before against Qarabag in the Europa League. Leonardo Jardim, the manager, is trying to find some solutions, especially offensively as Monaco have only scored 17 goals in 13 league games.
However they tend to do very well against Nantes: four Ligue 1 wins in a row and at least a goal in their last seven encounters against the Canaries. They have also only lost twice at home in their last 21 home league matches. So they will approach this game with confidence despite the absence of Thomas Lemar, who is still out and who has been Monaco’s best player so far this season.
For Nantes, it will be a difficult trip down south. They are in 10th position in the table but are struggling again after a good spell of three wins in a row. They have now lost three of their last four games in all competitions. Their failure to register points, especially away from home is highlighted by the fact that they have only drawn once this season. They are doing ok away from home this season though with three wins, a draw and three defeats. But physically, they might struggle against a Monaco side which will put a lot of intensity in this game for sure. So I think Monaco will make it five wins out of five matches against Nantes.
The odds are massively in favour of Monaco with a home win at 1.65. A draw is at 3.70 and a Nantes away win is at 5.75.
Guido Carillo is favourite to score first at 5.30. My best tip is Monaco to win without conceding a goal at 2.33.
Score prediction: Monaco 2 Nantes 1 at 7.50
