Marseille - St Etienne – Sunday 13:00 GMT
This is the big game of the weekend in France on Sunday afternoon. There is a historic rivalry between Marseille and St Etienne that has been going on for a few decades now. The sets of fans hate each other and there is a lot at stake in this match too.
Marseille have not won at home since September 13th and are now 11th in the table after their draw at Nice last weekend. If they want to keep their hopes of a top three finish alive, they have to win this game. They are five points behind third place Nice, which is not too much, but they are 11 points behind Monaco in second.
The hosts are in pretty good form though, going into this game with just one defeat in their last 14 matches in all competitions. Marseille played on Thursday in the Europa League against Bilbao and St Etienne was also involved, against Basel, so they will be at the same level going into the game on Sunday afternoon.
Deja Djedje will be out as he is injured and Mendy is not ready yet to come back but Abou Diaby could finally make his debut for the team.
For St Etienne, it is a tough trip. They have some players missing like captain and centre half Loic Perrin but they are on a good run with just one defeat in their last eight games, and that was against PSG. They recorded five wins in this run and just two draws. They are fourth in the table, level on points with Nice in third and only six points behind Monaco. So for them also it is important to get three points. But I think Marseille will finally win their first game at home in the league since September.
The odds are massively in favour of Marseille with a home win at 1.95. A draw is at 3.30 and a St Etienne away win is at 4.25.
Michy Batshuayi is favourite to score first at 5.00. My best tip is Marseille to score in both halves at 3.40.
Score prediction: Marseille 2 St Etienne 1 at 9.50
Lille – Lyon – Sunday 20:00 GMT
Lyon travel to Lille on Sunday evening on the back of three league wins in a row, having scored 10 goals and conceded only one along the way. They are now fifth in the table, only a point behind third placed Nice and seven points behind second placed Monaco. A few weeks ago, they were only 10th in the table, but they have been playing much better since Bruno Genesio took over from Hubert Fournier as manager just after Christmas, even if the team didn’t get great results straight away.
Lyon seem to have a lot of confidence and momentum now. Alexandre Lacazette is back to his best with three goals in his last three Ligue 1 matches. The only problem for l’OL is that Corentin Tolisso is injured and will miss the game. However, the depth of the squad is good enough to cover him without weakening the team too much. Defensively as well, Lyon is solid again. They don’t have a good record at all away at Lille in the league. Their last win over there was back in 2008.
Lille are 13th in the table and still close enough to the relegation zone but they are unbeaten in the last five games in all competitions, with two wins and three draws. They made it very difficult for PSG last weekend and got a point at the Parc des Princes (0-0). They will defend hard once again on Sunday against Lyon and will try to play on the counter with former Lyon striker Yassine Benzia starting up front. However, I still think that Lyon will be hard to stop on Sunday and will get another win.
The odds are even with a Lille home win at 2.75. A draw is at 3.15 and a Lyon away win is at 2.70.
Alexandre Lacazette is favourite to score first at 5.80. My best tip is Lyon to win and both teams to score at 6.25.
Score prediction: Lille 1 Lyon 2 at 11.00
