Gazelec Ajaccio – Lyon – 16:00 GMT
Despite the win in midweek in the League Cup against Ligue 2’s Tours, it is a very difficult time for Lyon. The team is only sixth in the table after no wins in their last five league games. They were humiliated 5-1 by PSG last Sunday and are out of all European competitions as well. Hubert Fournier is under massive pressure and this could be his last game.
The manager and his players face a very difficult trip to Ajaccio on Sunday afternoon. They have a lot of big players missing for this crucial match: no Lacazette, no Fekir, no Valbuena, and no Umtiti. It is a big blow for l’OL to be without those players. So they will rely on Claudio Beauvue up front. He scored two goals in midweek which will boost his confidence but the fans are still sceptical about him.
Lyon are still in the race to finish in the top three as they are only five points behind Monaco and Angers but ut they need to start winning again first and it will be difficult on Sunday.
The odds are in favour of Lyon with an away win at 2.20. A draw is at 3.30 and an Ajaccio home win is at 3.40.
My best tip is a draw and both teams to score at 4.80
Score prediction: Ajaccio1 Lyon 1 at 7.50
Bordeaux – Marseille – Sunday 20:00 GMT
This is the big clash of the weekend in Ligue 1 on Sunday night between Bordeaux and Marseille. They are two old rivals from when they were fighting for titles and trophies back in the 80s and 90s. They are always very competitive matches, with a lot of intensity and animosity between the two sets of fans. It will be an interesting game too.
Bordeaux won in a very convincing manner on Tuesday in the League Cup last 16 against Monaco. Willy Sagnol played some of his very talented youngsters, like Adam Ounas who did very well and scored a goal. After some tough results at the end of November and start of December, Bordeaux are only 14th in the table but just two points behind Marseille in ninth.. However, they are always a bit unpredictable.
In front of a packed stadium, the players will want to end the year in style, especially against such a big rival. With a win, they would overlap l’OM in the table as well. Sagnol has all his key players available for this game and will name his strongest XI.
Marseille also won in midweek in the League Cup, away at Ligue 2 Bourg Peronnas. Once again, they confirmed their fantastic away form. They are unbeaten away from home in all competitions since October. They feel less pressure away from the Vélodrome, where they have not won in their last seven league games. They will fancy themselves in such a big game away with their fans coming to Bordeaux in numbers. They need another win to keep climbing up in the table and finish the year of a high. George-Kevin Nkoudou, one of Marseille’s best players of the last two months, is out though which is a blow. So I think the game will end in a draw.
The odds are quite even with a Marseille away win at 2.60. The draw is at 3.25 and a Bordeaux home win is at 2.80.
My best tip is over 3.5 goals scored at 4.10
Score prediction: Bordeaux 2 Marseille 2 at 18.00
