Guingamp - Lyon - Saturday 16.00 GMT
Lyon lost their place at the top of the table after their very disappointing home defeat against Nice two weeks ago (2-1). It was one of their worst games of the season and PSG took advantage of it to overtake them at the top of the table. Before their trip to Guingamp on Saturday afternoon, Hubert Fournier and his young squad are going through a tough time. They have only won two of their last eight league games.
They have some big players missing for this game as well. Right back Christophe Jallet got injured with France during the international break and will be out for 4 weeks. Gonalons is out injured too like Bisevac and Gourcuff. Lacazette is back from suspension, like Umtiti, after missing the nice game but he is still not back to his best while Fekir, who is the revelation of the season in Ligue 1, has not had a shot on goal for 197 minutes now.
Things are not looking great then for them. Psychologically, they are not at their best. They have been struggling with the pressure and the expectations of being top of the table. They need to get back to their best if they still want to win the league. Because despite all their recent problems, they are still only a point behind the leaders PSG who play Marseille on Sunday in the big clash of the weekend in France. So Lyon can take advantage of their two rivals facing each other to go back to the top of the table. But they need a big performance. It is a tricky trip for them as well.
Guigamp are 10th in the table and are having a wonderful season considering their resources. They are in the French Cup semi final and have done Ligue 1 proud in the Europa League too this season. They are always difficult to play away from home, despite two defeats in their last two home games. At their ground, they are the only team this season to have beaten both PSG and Monaco. They are well organised and resilient and efficient up front with their star player Claudio Beauvue, who has 21 goals in all competitions already this season, even if his last one was back in February.
Their manager Jocelyn Gourvennec is doing a fantastic job there and they will fancy their chances in this game against struggling Lyon. Mentally, they might focus a bit more already on next week’s Cup semi final but they will be very motivated to face Lyon on Saturday and to try to achieve a wonderful treble by beating them too!
However, I think that despite their players missing Lyon will put on a good display in Guingamp on Saturday. It won’t be enough to win but they will get a point.
The odds are slightly in favour of Lyon with an away win at 2.05. The draw is at 3.30 and a Guingamp home win is at 3.65.
Alexandre Lacazette is favourite to score first at 4.10 and my best tip is a draw and both teams to score at 4.60.
Score prediction: Guingamp 1 Lyon 1 at 6.75
