Lyon - Bastia
Lyon had a torrid time in Marseille on Sunday evening in the Olympico. They dominated for most of the game and created plenty of chances but could only get a draw, after the game was suspended for 25 minutes because of crowd troubles. It was a disappointing result in the end but for an hour, the performance was very good.
Alexandre Lacazette finally netted his first goal of the season with a well-taken penalty. He had not scored for 726 minutes before that and this goal and that will be a big boost for him and for the team. Now he needs to keep scoring on Wednesday at home against Bastia.
The man of the match against Marseille was Mathieu Valbuena, on his return to his old ground. He had his best display since joining Lyon in the summer. He was everywhere and caused a lot of problems for the OM defenders, who kicked him all around the pitch. He will be key this season for l’OL if he can keep this kind of form. His relationship with Lacazette, as we saw for the move that won the penalty, is getting better and better as well, but he is doubtful for this game, whilst Yanga-Mbiwa and Bedimo are definitely out.
Lyon are yet to win at home this season (two draws and a defeat) but have a great record against Bastia, who have only won once at the Stade Gerland in 28 encounters!
Bastia are one of the worst away teams so far this season, with just a point in three away matches. They were battered in Marseille last time out and they struggle too much defensively away from home, especially against stronger teams. However, unlike at the Vélodrome, they will set up much more defensively on Wednesday after losing three Ligue 1 games in succession. They need to bounce back but I can’t see them getting anything out of this match, and Lacazette will score once again.
The odds are massively in favour of Lyon with a home win at 1.51. A draw is at 3.80 and an away win for Bastia is at 8.10.
Alexandre Lacazette is favourite to score first at 3.90. My best tip is Lyon to win both halves at 4.10.
Score prediction: Lyon 3 Bastia 0 at 11.50
Toulouse - Marseille
Marseille showed character to come back in the game against Lyon on Sunday to snatch a draw despite it being 10 vs 11 for a whole half. They will be in trouble with the French league though for the incidents in the stands with the game suspended for 25 minutes. Marseille risk a heavy fine and probably a suspension of their stadium. The players will have to focus quickly on their next game though, on Wednesday away at Toulouse.
With only three days to recover between the two matches, it is a tricky journey from east to west for l’OM. They have been poor this season away from home, with two defeats in two matches. They have to improve on the road and they will have some momentum after their second half against Lyon. They were dominated in the first half but came out fighting after the break, despite being one man down.
Lassana Diarra was immense once again in midfield but Michy Batshuayi struggled on his own up front and lacked efficiency. He didn’t get enough service from Alessandrini or Cabella on the wings either. Marseille, still only 12th in the table, will have to do more at Toulouse on Wednesday but at least they will have some momentum after their late showing against Lyon, although manager Michel has said he will make changes and Alessandrini is suspended.
Toulouse showed the same problems on Sunday as in previous weeks. Once again they were in the lead and once again, they could not win. They conceded a goal in the last minutes away at Bordeaux in the big Garonne derby and the previous weekend, they were 2 nil up against Reims and drew 2-2. They have only won one of their six league games so far this season (two defeats and three draws) and are just above the relegation zone in 17th position. I think they will get beaten by Marseille on Wednesday though.
The odds are in favour of Marseille with an away win at 2.30. A draw is at 3.20 and a home win for Toulouse is at 3.30.
Michy Batshuayi is favourite to score first at 5.75. My best tip is Marseille to score over 1.5 goals at 2.45.
Score prediction: Toulouse 1 Marseille 2 at 10.50
