Lyon - Reims - Saturday 16.30 GMT
It has been another tough European week for Lyon. Despite a good performance, they lost at home to Valencia (1-0) on Tuesday evening which has added to the already bad atmosphere in the camp. They are under big pressure before hosting Reims, one of the surprise packages of the season so far, at home on Saturday. They were also beaten in the league last weekend at Bordeaux (3-1) after a terrible display.
They thought they would lose Sergi Darder through injury after he went off in midweek, but he has been passed fit. However Yanga Mbiwa, Rafael, Bedimo and Fekir are out. The most worrying thing, though is the lack of confidence around the team and the inefficiency up front. They had plenty of chances against Valencia and could not score. Alexandre Lacazette was, once again, taken off before the end of the game which he didn’t like. He gave a big interview the day before the Valencia clash where he criticised the club’s chairman and manager over the way they handled his contract talks over the summer. The interview didn’t go down well at all and things are not right at all at Lyon at the moment.
They are struggling to find the form they showed last season. The injury to Fekir was a massive blow but it is not the only reason why things are not going well. Lyon are only 8th in the table, eight points behind the leaders PSG. They need to win on Saturday after just one victory in their last six matches in all competitions.
If Lyon are under big pressure, Reims will have nothing to lose on Saturday. The Champagne club have been excellent since the start of the season. They are fourth in the table after just one defeat all season so far. They beat Marseille (1-0) and drew with PSG (1-1) at home and they are very comfortable away from home as well. They are well organised and difficult to beat. Up front, they have pace and physical impact and they will cause problems to the Lyon defence. I think it will be a very balanced game with a draw in the end.
The odds are massively in favour of Lyon with a home win at 1.68. The draw is at 4.00 and a Reims away win at 5.00.
Alexandre Lacazette is favourite to score first at 4.60. My best tip is a draw and both teams to score at 5.60.
Score prediction: Lyon 1 Reims 1 at 8.50
