Julien Laurens' Ligue 1 Betting: Monaco & Lyon To Keep Up Champions League Chase With Wins

Monaco - Guingamp - Saturday 18.00 GMT

Monaco had a bad weekend last week, they dropped two points at Rennes on Sunday despite controlling the game and they are now third in the table behind Lyon who had another very good performance and a win away at Toulouse. Monaco will travel to Lyon the following weekend but they need to get things right this time at home against Guingamp, who are already safe.

The Monégasques have only won two of their last eight Ligue 1 matches. They used to be eight points clear of Lyon and are now level with a lesser good goal difference. They have three matches to finish in second place and qualify directly for the Champions League next season and if they win those three, they will do it. Against Guingamp, Leonardo Jardim will be able to rely on a fit again Joao Moutinho which is a real boost. He brings so much o this team. Raggi is a big doubt and would be missed by the team as Echiéjilé, who would replace him at left back, is not in good form. Bernardo Silva will be key once again in the playmaker role. But Monaco need goals. They have only scored five goals in their last four league matches. But Monaco have a fantastic home record in ligue 1 against Guingamp as they have never lost against them in nine games between the two clubs at the Stade Louis II.

Guingamp are safe already and it’s a great achievement for the to stay up. They had a tough season but are now 12th in the table. They are in good form with just one defeat in their last six Ligue 1 matches. They have confidence and are playing for fun. However, Monaco are playing for the Champions League and I think they will win on Saturday.

The odds are massively in favour of Monaco with a home win at 1.48. A draw is at 4.00 and a Guingamp away win is at 8.00.

Vagner Love is favourite to score first at 4.50. My best tip is Monaco to win without conceding a goal at 2.45.

Score prediction: Monaco 1 Guingamp 0 at 7.00

Lyon - Gazelec Ajaccio - Saturday 20.00 GMT

Lyon are back in second place after their win at Toulouse (3-2) last weekend and will host Gazelec Ajaccio on Saturday evening hoping to maintain their position ahead of Monaco at the end of this weekend. They are the in-form team at the moment in Ligue 1. They have lost only one of their last twelve league matches, they are very good going forward with Lacazette on fire and they are full of confidence.

They will not take anything for granted as this Gazelec team is fighting for its place in the top flight, just above the relegation zone so the Corsicans will be well up for it. Lyon know they have to be careful and will approach this game very seriously. They are also invincibles at the moment in their new stadium, the Parc OL where they have scored 2.75 goals per league game since moving in at the start of January. They will be very strong once again at home on Saturday evening.

Bruno Genesio is doing a great job as manager and is assured to still be on the bench next season. But he wants to finish on a high and secure 2nd place. He has all his players available, even if Nabil Fekir is still not 100% fit after his long injury. Maxwell Cornet is back from suspension. Mathieu Valbuena will be there too but he has had a tough week with an altercation with a fan in Toulouse last weekend. The fan has alerted the police and an investigation has been opened. The French international might still start however.

For Ajaccio, the fight against relegation is very much on. They are just a point above Reims in 18th after their win against Bastia in the Corsican derby last weekend (3-2). They have great memories of playing against Lyon, obviously, as they beat them at home back in December (2-1). However, they know ho difficult it is to come to Lyon. They have won away since December with five draws and three defeats n their last 8 away games. But they will fight hard and they will never give up. They will try to make life difficult for Lyon but I don’t think it will be enough and I think Lyon will win this match.

The odds are massively in favour of Lyon with a home win at 1.30. The draw is at 5.15 and a Gazelec away win is at 11.00.

Alexandre Lacazette is favourite to score first at 3.70. My best tip is Lyon to win both halves at 2.95.

Score prediction: Lyon 3 Gazelec 0 at 8.50
