PSG - Monaco - Sunday 20.00 GMT
PSG won the title last weekend after their extraordinary 9-0 win away at Troyes. They will celebrate it in front of their fans on Sunday in this weekend’s big clash in Ligue 1 against Monaco. It is 1st vs 2nd at the Parc des Princes.
Paris don’t intend to slow down their incredible rhythm this season so far. They have only lost once all year in the league and they don’t want another loss. They will take this game very seriously even with the title wrapped up. Blanc only has Verratti out with a groin problem. Van der Wiel stormed out of the dressing room at half time last weekend after an argument with Ibrahimovic and he might miss the game too. But everybody else is ready and if Blanc might rotate his squad a bit, it will still be a very strong starting line up from him.
PSG have lost one game at home in the league since the end of 2012 and that was after their were crowned champions in 2014. Could history repeat itself? The players will be really focused on this game. Ibra will lead the team. He is in the form of his life with 27 league goals in 24 games so far this season. He netted a quadruple last weekend. Earlier in the season, the Parisians smashed Monaco away with a Cavani brace on Di Maria’s debut for the club. But they don’t have a good record at home against Monaco in Ligue 1. They only drew last season (1-1) like the previous two years, and only won once in their last ten encounters at the Parc des Princes, back in 2007!
So Monaco will fancy their chances. They have to. They are still second but they cannot afford mistakes as teams behind them, like Lyon, Nice, Lyon and Rennes are threatening their position. They are only 5, 6 and 7 points behind and a defeat for Monaco this weekend in Paris combined with those teams winning would make it a very bad weekend for them!
So Leonardo Jardim will probably play a very defensive minded team. They have to first make sure they don’t concede goals against Ibra and Co. They will make it very difficult for PSG even if their defence has not been as strong recently (four goals conceded in their last two games). But I don’t think it will be enough as I think PSG will celebrate their title with another win.
The odds are massively in favour of PSG with a home win at 1.33. The draw is at 5.00 and a Troyes away win is at 10.00.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is favourite to score first at 3.20. My best tip is less than 1.5 goals scored at 3.60.
Score prediction: PSG 1 Monaco 0 at 6.10
