PSG – Lorient – Friday 19.30 GMT
PSG lost their third game of the season at Bordeaux last Sunday (3-2).
Too tired after their Champions League heroics, not focused enough and dominated by a very good Bordeaux side, the champions were still only beaten in the last minute of the game. Zlatan Ibrahimovic also created more controversy after the match when he insulted the referee and France as a country.
It was a day to forget for Laurent Blanc and the players but the draw between Marseille and Lyon (0-0) meant that they didn’t lose too much ground on the leaders Lyon. They are only two points adrift and a win on Friday against Lorient at the Parc des Princes would take them back to the top of the table until Lyon host Nice on Saturday.
PSG want to put pressure on l’OL. The full week to prepare this game with Lorient was really good for Blanc. The players had a deserved rest, they trained well and they are ready to put the Bordeaux disappointment behind them. David Luiz, Marquinhos, Serge Aurier and Yohan Cabaye are all out injured for this match like Lucas. But everybody else is fit and ready.
Blanc, who made a few changes at Bordeaux, will go back to his strongest starting line-up on Friday with Camara in the centre alongside Silva and Van der Wiel at right back. Cavani will come back up front with Ibra and Pastore.
PSG are still unbeaten at home this season in all competitions. They have an incredible momentum at the Parc des Princes, even if they don’t always play well in their stadium. All their losses (Guingamp, Bastia, Bordeaux, Barcelona) came away from home. At home though, it is a different story. The Parisians are in full confidence there. They are really hard to stop and they, for sure, won’t fear Lorient at all.
Their form away from home is indeed poor this season with only four wins and 10 defeats in 14 games. They are still fighting not to go down in 15th position in the table.
However their win last weekend against Caen was a massive boost. It was their first success after two losses in a row and it came at the right time. It means that now they are five points clear of Toulouse in 18th. But they now how difficult their task will be in Paris on Friday.
They don’t expect muchfrom the game and they know that no one expects them to get a result there either. So they will play with a free mind and try to hit PSG on the counter. However, they will be without their best player Raphael Guerreiro, who is out injured.
This season, Lorient have really struggled in big games: in 13 matches against the top nine teams in the table, they won only twice for eight defeats. And I think they will lose again on Friday.
The odds are massively in favour of PSG with a home win at 1.25. A draw is at 5.50 and a Lorient away win is at 13.00.
Zlatan is favourite to score first at 3.50. My best tip is a PSG to win both halves at 2.60.
Score prediction: PSG 3 Lorient 0 at 8.00
