Lyon - Montpellier - Friday 19.30 GMT
Lyon were pathetic in the Champions League in midweek with a 2-1 defeat at home against Gent in the last European game at the Stade Gerland. It was a big disappointment as they are completely out of all European competitions now, in a group that looked not too difficult. They were not good enough in the Champions League this season. They need to bounce back on Friday evening in the league, still at home, against Montpellier.
Lyon are second in the table now, 13 points behind PSG, but they are still not at their best. They are never very convincing and their key players, Lacazette, Valbuena or Yanga Mbiwa, are not having much of an impact. Lacazette is out of form, despite his hat trick against St Etienne three weeks ago. Umtiti and Jallet are still out, alongside Fekir who is out until March. But Grenier is back in the squad for the first time this season. All the players need to do more for the team.
Hubert Fournier, the manager, is not under pressure yet but they need to play better in the league and keep winning, not like last weekend at Nice where they got battered (3-0). They have a great home record against Montpellier with only two losses since 2000, but they are very unpredictable this season.
Montpellier feel they have nothing to lose at Lyon on Friday. They are 14th in the table after a really poor start of the season. But they are now unbeaten in their last five Ligue 1 matches: three wins and two draws. They are playing better and are more solid defensively as well. But it is still a big task for them to go and get a win at Lyon. They would be happy with a draw but I think they will actually lose on Friday and Lyon will get the three points.
The odds are massively in favour of Lyon with a home win at 1.57. A draw is at 3.85 and a Montpellier away win is at 6.50.
Alexandre Lacazette is favourite to score first at 4.35. My best tip is Lyon to score in both halves at 2.70.
Score prediction: Lyon 2 Montpellier 1 at 9.50
