Julien Laurens’ Ligue 1 Betting: PSG are on a roll but Monaco won't let up

WEEK 24

Montpellier V Monaco, Tuesday 6pm

Monaco are alone at the top of the Ligue 1 table after their demolition of Nice last weekend (3-0). L’ASM travel to Montpellier on Tuesday evening and are now three points clear of PSG and Nice but with a much better goal difference. They score on average three goals per game in the league this season (68 goals in 23 matches). In fact, they have already scored 100 goals in all competitions already this season.

They are incredible going forward with Radamel Falcao back to his best level with 19 goals in all competitions already this season. They are unstoppable at the moment with seven wins and one draw in their last eight matches in all competitions. With only 15 games to go this season, Monaco are in a great position to push PSG all the way. They are solid defensivly as well and really confident right now.

Bernardo Silva is in the match squad but he is doubtful after a knock on his ankle and the manager Leonardo Jardim will not want to take any risks with his best player so far this season. Jorge, the new Brazilian international left back who just joined Monaco, is in the squad for the first time. On the other hand, Andrea Raggi, Nabil Dirar and Guido Carrillo are still out.

Montpellier have been really good at home against the big teams so far this season with wins against PSG and Marseille for example. This is a huge game for them as they are fighting against relegation. Their new manager, Jean-Louis Gasset, started with a win last weekend against Bastia (2-1). It was a big relief and it has brought some confidence back to the team. However, Monaco is a step too high and I think Montpellier will lose at home to the leaders.

The odds are massively in favour of Monaco with an away win at 1.80. A draw is at 3.85 and a Montpellier home win is at 4.25.

Radamel Falcao is favourite to score first at 4.50. My best tip is Monaco to win without conceding a goal at 3.60.

Score prediction: Montpellier 0 Monaco 2 (11.00)

PSG v Lille, Tuesday 8pm

PSG are now second in the table after their win at Dijon last weekend (3-1), overtaking Nice who lost at Monaco (3-0) as the Parisians continue their great start of 2017. They host Lille on Tuesday evening at the Parc des Princes to keep their unbeaten run alive. They will be heavy favourites in this match after looking more and more solid in the last few weeks. Defensively, they are solid again and Julian Draxler has brought a lot to the team already, including goals and chances created. He should start again up front alongside Cavani and Lucas.

Unaï Emery might be tempted to rotate his squad and rest some players considering that Paris will play a lot of games in the next few weeks. However, the PSG manager will be without Marco Verratti, who is still out which is a big blow. PSG is definitely better with him on the pitch. Javier Pastore and Kevin Trapp are also still out injured and are not in the squad like Thomas Meunier, Giovanni Lo Celso and Grzegorz Krychowiak.

Angel Di Maria was doubtful but he is in the squad. Hatem Ben Arfa, who has been showing very good things since the turn of the year, could start for the Parisians. They have a great record at home in the league against Lille so they will be confident they can get a win. And they will hope that Montpellier can help them by taking points off Monaco.

Lille were in good form before losing at home to bottom of the table Lorient last weekend (1-0). It was a really bad performance for the Dogues who lost Sankharé, their best midfielder in the transfer window, and signed some very talented but young players. It might take time for the new squad to gel. So this is not the best of time to travel to Paris. And I expect the Parisians to get another win.

The odds are massively in favour of PSG with a home win at 1.25. The draw is at 6.00 and a Lille away win is at 12.00.

Edinson Cavani is favourite to score first at 3.45. My best tip is Cavani to score a brace at 4.00.

Score prediction: PSG 3 Lille 0 (7.50)
