Monaco - St Etienne – Sunday 13:00 GMT
This is another very interesting game between Monaco (fourth in the table) and St Etienne (sixth).
After a poor start to the season, Monaco are back in the fight for the Champions League places for next season. Leonardo Jardim’s team have lost only once of their last 11 games in the league. They registered a precious 2-0 win away at Bastia last weekend and they are finding the net with more regularity, with Traoré or Carrillo, who scored their first league goals of the season in the last ten days, while Lemar’s return has been a big boost for l’ASM,in terms of leadership and technical ability.
But the best news is that Jeremy Toulalan is back in the squad too. He was involved in midweek at Tottenham in the Europa League and the team is so much better and well balanced when he plays. Monaco also defended better with him on the pitch and they will be looking for only their second clean sheet in their last eight matches in all competitions. It is a game, though, that could bring them even closer to the top three.
They are facing a St Etienne team very low on confidence. Les Verts have been struggling of late with only one win in their last six matches in all competitions. Galtier and his players have been poor offensively and defensively for most of those matches. But St Etienne have a very good record away at Monaco recently with three wins, three draws and only one defeat. But I feel that this time, Monaco will have the advantage and will get the three points.
The odds are in favour of Monaco with a home win at 2.00. A draw is at 3.25 and a St Etienne away win is at 4.10. My best tip is Monaco to win without conceding a goal at 3.10
Score prediction: Monaco 1 St Etienne 0 is 7.00
Marseille - Gazelec Ajaccio – Sunday 16:00 GMT
Marseille host Ajaccio on Sunday afternoon in a very important clash between the hosts, 9th in the table and the visitors, in 15th place. L’OM’s bad home run continued last weekend with a draw against Montpellier. They have not won any of their last six Ligue 1 matches at the Stade Velodrome.
It is a big contrast with their very good away form of late. They struggle at home, especially defensively where they concede too many goals. They also played on Thursday in the Europa League so they will not be as fresh as the Corsicans, who will make the short trip to Marseille on Saturday.
Michel, the OM manager, needs a win to calm the fans who are not happy with the home run of the team and with some of his choices. At least, they will have Lassana Diarra back for this game. Losing him last weekend was a big loss. He has been Marseille’s best player so far this season. They will be more balanced with him on Sunday and they will take nothing granted in this game because they know it is a very tricky one.
Ajaccio are on an incredible run of form at the moment with five wins and two draws in their last seven league games! After winning none of their first 10 Ligue 1 matches, they are on fire. They have become so difficult to stop. They have plenty of confidence and momentum and have nothing to lose in Marseille on Sunday. However, I expect Marseille to come on top in this game.
The odds are massively in favour of Marseille with a home win at 1.40. The draw is at 4.65 and an Ajaccio away win is at 8.25.
My best tip is over 3.5 goals scored in the game at 3.05.
Score prediction: Marseille 3 Ajaccio 1 is 34.00
PSG – Lyon – Sunday 20:00 GMT
It is the big clash of the weekend in France. PSG, the leaders, host Lyon, currently fifth in the table, on Sunday. Both teams won in the Champions League in midweek, Paris at home against Shakhtar and Lyon away in Valencia. Laurent Blanc rested a lot of his players in midweek. They will all be back fresh for this game. For example, Di Maria and Cavani only came on during the second half on Tuesday so they will start. Verratti and Pastore should be back for this game after they recovered from their injuries, meaning everybody is available for Blanc.
PSG are already 15 points clear of second place Angers before this match and 19 clear of Lyon. The Parisians are still unbeaten this season after a very strong start with 14 wins and only three draws. In fact, they have not lost in the league since their 3-2 defeat at Bordeaux last March. They have been unstoppable, as we saw last weekend where they tore apart Nice away from home in a 3-0 win. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is back to his best as well with 12 goals in his 12 league appearances this season and 19 in his last 19 games for club and country.
The visitors have not won at the Parc des Princes in Paris since 2007. Their very good win at Valencia on Wednesday in the Champions League was their first victory in six matches in all competitions (four defeats and one draw). Hubert Fournier, the manager, is still very much under pressure despite the win at Valencia. The biggest blow for them is that Alexandre Lacazette is a out after picking up a hamstring strain against Valencia. But even with Lacazette, Lyon would not be strong enough to compete with Paris. I expect a PSG win on Sunday
The odds are massively in favour of PSG with a home win at 1.25. The draw is at 5.75 and a Lyon away win is at 13.00.
My best tip is PSG to win both halves at 2.65.
Score prediction: PSG 2 Lyon 0 is 7.50
