Lyon – Bordeaux – Wednesday 20:00 GMT
This is a very interesting game between Lyon and Bordeaux on Wednesday, both still hoping to finish in the top three at the end of the season. Lyon are 11th in the table after their very disappointing defeat at Bastia on Saturday evening. They need points and they need wins to try to come back in contention for the European places at least. They have been playing better under Genesio since he took over from Fournier after Christmas but in terms of points, Lyon are worse off than before his appointment. They will need to find solution to their problems quickly because it is already a very average season and they don’t want it to become a very poor season.
It will be a tough game for Lyon as Bordeaux have been doing very well lately. The Lyon fans are not happy by the recent results of the club. They are also not happy that the team has not been strengthened in January, despite the departures of Bisevac, Rose and Beauvue. Lyon are going through a really tough time with just one league win since November. They really need to react and start winning if they want to finish the season strongly. They are still just seven points behind third place. But they need to start winning and put a good series of results together.
For Bordeaux, things are much better. They put on a great performance on Sunday to beat Rennes (4-0) at home. They are now seventh in the table, just six points off second place. They have lost only one of their last 13 matches in all competitions. They also had a very good transfer window. They let two important players go in Saivet and Kahzri but they signed Malcolm, a very promising Brazilian, Debuchy the French international, Bernardoni, the promising French goalkeeper and the Uruguayan U21 international midfielder Arrambari. Cheick Diabaté has been on fire too scoring in each of his last 4 Ligue 1 games. They will be full of confidence coming into this game with real momentum and I think they will get a win on Wednesday.
The odds are massively in favour of Lyon with a home win at 1.68. A draw is at 3.70 and a Bordeaux win is at 5.50.
Alexandre Lacazette is favourite to score first at 4.50. My best tip is Bordeaux to win at least one half at 2.95. Diabaté to score at anytime at 3.95 is also tempting considering his current form.
Score prediction: Lyon 1 Bordeaux 2 at 19.00
PSG – Lorient – Wednesday 18:00 GMT
PSG beat St Etienne on Sunday evening thanks to a brace from Zlatan Ibrahimovic to equal the record of 32 unbeaten league games in a row set by Nantes back in the 1994-1995 season. Now, the league leaders face Lorient on Wednesday at the Parc des Princes looking to beat the record and make history once more. The Parisians have won their last 13 matches in all competitions, a club record. They had a tough first half at St Etienne on Sunday but Ibra ensured victory with a double, his 18th and 19th league goals of the season.
David Luiz, Lavezzi, Kurzawa, Van der Wiel, Rabiot, Sirigu, Thiago Silva and Javier Pastore all missed that win and will not be back on Wednesday. Only Thiago Silva, Rabiot and Kurzawa should be back, so Laurent Blanc will still be able to rotate his squad against Lorient as the Marseille game is looming as well on Sunday. Edinson Cavani could start up front for example, Rabiot in midfield with Verratti, who only came on late on Sunday in St Etienne. Whatever he does, the PSG manager will field a very strong team for what could be a historical night if PSG beat the record.
For Lorient, it could be a very long evening at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday. They have conceded seven goals in their last two league visits to Paris in two defeats. They won at the weekend, taking them to 12th in the table. They know it will be a very difficult game in Paris and they will try to defend well and hit them on the counter. They have only won two of their 11 away games in Ligue 1 this season so it would be a miracle for them to win. I expect PSG to dominate the game and to win it comfortably as well.
The odds are massively in favour of PSG with a home win at 1.15. The draw is at 7.50 and a Lorient away win is at 19.00.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is favourite to score first at 3.00. My best tip is PSG to win both halves at 2.18.
Score prediction: PSG 3 Lorient 0 at 7.00
