Julien Laurens' Ligue 1 Betting: PSG To Rotate But Still Win Against Angers

Angers – PSG – 18:00 GMT

It is third against first on Tuesday in Ligue 1. Angers are the surprise package of the French top flight so far this season. The promoted side have been in superb form since the start of the season but they face their biggest game at home against the Champions.

PSG won their ninth league game in a row on Saturday against Troyes and looked very impressive again. They are still unbeaten in the league and, unlike previous seasons, are treating each game very seriously and taking nothing for granted. They have taken 41 points out of 45 possible, equalling the record set by the Parisien club in the 1985-1986 season. They are aware that Angers is not an easy place to go but Paris have been so good away from home in this campaign, registering seven victories and a draw.

Verratti is still out like Pastore but Aurier and Lavezzi are back in the squad. Laurent Blanc has announced that he will rotate his team a lot as PSG will play nine games in a month between now and the winter break. Some players need some rest, like ibrahimovic. Stambouli could start in midfield, Lucas up front, while Aurier and Maxwell could be back in the starting eleven too. The Parisians know it will be a tricky game but they are full of confidence at the moment.

Angers are also full of confidence and looking forward to this game. They have nothing to lose here as everybody expects them to be defeated. They are very strong defensively and efficient, especially on set pieces. Set pieces could be key as Paris are not always great at defending corners and wide free kicks.

Angers have only lost once at home this season in eight matches. They have the second best defence in the league behind PSG with nine goals conceded in 14 games. With 26 points, Angers have had a wonderful start of the season and are only 14 points away from safety. They have no pressure at all ahead of this game and will have a good go at PSG, but I still think the leaders will win away from home.

The odds are massively in favour of PSG with an away win at 1.32. The draw is at 5.00 and an Angers home win is at 11.00.

Edison Cavani is favourite to score first at 3.55 but my best tip is the score to be 0-0 at half time at 2.85.

Score prediction: Angers 0 PSG 1 at 6.10

Nantes – Lyon – 20:00 GMT

Lyon travel to Nantes on Tuesday in Ligue 1 on the back of three defeats in a row in all competitions: they lost twice in the league - at Nice and at home against Montpellier as well as in the Champions League at home against Gent. They were embarrassing in their last match against Montpellier. It was a very poor performance, in all departments of the game, especially defensively. And it could have been worse if Lopes hadn't made three world class saves.

Lyon are now fourth in the table but they are in crisis. The chairman, Jean-Michel Aulas, has backed Hubert Fournier but the manager looks like he has no clue on how to improve the team and clearly his message is not getting across to the players. There are a lot of tensions between the players too. The dressing room is not a happy one and both individually and collectively, Lyon are not doing enough on the pitch. Aulas is not happy and has spoken to the players. He expects a reaction at Nantes on Tuesday.

Ballet and Umtiti are still out, as is Lopes in goal, which is a huge blow for l’OL. Yanga Mbiwa is suspended, while Valbuena is a big doubt too and should only be on the bench after he picked up a knock on Friday against Montpellier. So it will be a weakened Lyon team at Nantes on Tuesday. Lacazette scored on Friday but he is still far from his best level of last season. The team needs him at his best to put on a good run of results. Lyon need it badly as there is more and more pressure on them from teams behind them in the table.

Nantes are 10th in the table but are going through a tough time with just one win in their last five league games (with one draw and three defeats). They have been very inconsistent so far this season with some very good performances and some more average displays, like Saturday’s 0-0 against Bastia. They usually play well in big games, even if the results are not always there but they will fight hard for at least a point on Tuesday against Lyon. They know Lyon are low on confidence, weakened and struggling at the moment so they will put a lot of intensity and rhythm in the game in a great atmosphere. They will give it a good go. It will be an open game and I can see a draw there.

The odds are in favour of Lyon with an away win at 2.20. A draw is at 3.25 and a Nantes home win is at 3.50.

Alexandre Lacazette is favourite to score first at 5.00. My best tip is a draw and both teams to score at 5.00.

Score prediction: Nantes 2 Lyon 2 at 21.00
