PSG - Guingamp - Friday 19.30 GMT
PSG have a chance to extend their lead at the top of the table on Friday against Guingamp at home. A win would take them six points clear of Lyon who only play away at Caen on Saturday.
The final sprint in the title race between Paris and Lyon will be fascinating. With only three games remaining, the champions have the edge but they cannot afford any mistake or slip up. They will play twice at home and once away in their last three games which is also an advantage. The Parc des Princes has been a fortress this season. Barcelona are the only team to have won there all season so far. PSG are unbeaten at home in Ligue 1 (13 wins, 4 draws) and have been very impressive recently. They have won their last six matches in the league, which equals their best winning streak of the season.
They scored 20 goals in those games, running riot during Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s suspension (12 goals in three games) but then he came back and they looked even stronger at Nantes last Sunday (2-0). The return of Ibra could have unsettled the team because PSG played so well without him and it is so different to play with him, but it actually was very positive. Ibra had a very good and collective game against Nantes with two assists last Sunday and he will want more on Friday against Guingamp.
PSG have lost only once at home against them, back in 2000. The confidence and the momentum in the team right now is massive and with the title being at stake, the players have been very focused and concentrated too.
David Luiz and Salvatore Sirigu missed the trip to Nantes, and the Brazilian and Thiago Motta will still be missing here, meaning that Marquinhos will play in the centre and Serge Aurier at right back with Yohan Cabaye in holding midfield. Further forward Laurent Blanc has plenty of options and he is very likely to stick with a Pastore - Ibra - Cavani front three with Lucas and Lavezzi on the bench. The game is sold out and another win, the seventh in the bounce, would mean a massive step towards the tile for the Parisians. But they are taking nothing for granted and they know it will be a tough game on Friday.
It will be a difficult game also for Guingamp. The Ligue 1 minnows are safe which is an incredible and well deserved achievement once again.
So they have nothing to play for but they still want to put on a good flight in Paris against the Champions. Jocelyn Gourvennec will rely once again on Claudio Beauvue, Guingamp’s best player, who has scored 15 league goals so far this season. L’En Avant are not impressive away from home (6 wins, 3 draws and 8 defeats this season) but they are well organised, defend well and are good on the counter as well. It will be an interesting contest although they don’t have enough in their locker to stop PSG’s surge towards the title. I expect the home side to win on Friday.
The odds are massively in favour of PSG with a home win at 1.15. A draw is at 8.00 and a Guingamp away win is at 18.00.
Edinson Cavani is favourite to score first at 3.50. My best tip is PSG winning both halves at 2.00.
Score prediction: PSG 3 Guingamp 0 at 6.00
