Julien Laurens' Ligue 1 Betting: Rennes To Inflict Another Defeat On Hapless Marseille

Marseille - Rennes - Friday 19.30 GMT

Marseille mediocre’s season continued last weekend with a 1-1 draw away at Lorient, and the team was saved by their keeper Steve Mandanda once again. They now host Rennes on Friday evening. Marseille are 10th in the table and if they want one last chance to finish in the top four, they have to beat them. Rennes are 5th in the table and will be very dangerous for l’OM.

The Stade Vélodrome and the players have not seen a win by Marseille since September! The home form of the Marseillais has been so dreadful. There are many rumours of problems between the players and Michel, the manager, who has not been good enough so far this season. The players know they almost need to win their remaining eight matches to stand a chance to finish in the Top four.

They will have to play better on Friday than they have done in recent weeks. The atmosphere will be tense as well as the club’s ultras will protest against the bad performances and results by not supporting the team for the first 15 minutes of the game. The pressure will be massive on the players as another disappointment will create chaos at the club! Michel will probably keep his 4-4-2 with Steven Fletcher and Michy Batshuayi up front and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Remi Cabella on the wings.

Rennes usually do pretty well in Marseille with a draw and two wins in their last five visits. The players have some momentum after snatching a point off Lyon last weekend (1-1) in the last twenty minutes. They have Sio and Mbengue back and they most importantly have the man of the moment in Ousmane Dembélé, only 18 years old but the revelation of the season so far.

He is in great form for them. It will be a special game as well for Roland Courbis, former Marseille manager and now at Rennes. The visitors will be aiming for a win and I think they will get it. Defensively, Marseille have been dreadful and Rennes will take advantage of it.

The odds are in favour of Marseille with a home win at 1.90. A draw is at 3.45 and a Rennes away win is at 4.25.

Michy Batshuayi is favourite to score first at 5.00. My best tip is Rennes to win and both teams to score at 8.00.

Score prediction: Marseille 1 Rennes 2 at 14.00
