Montpellier - Monaco
Monaco were very disappointing on Sunday, losing 3-2 at home to Lorient. They were uncharacteristically poor defensively, conceding three goals and looking shaky all afternoon. They now face a tricky trip away at Montpellier on Thursday evening.
The principality are only 11th in the table and have won just two Ligue 1 games so far out of six (two losses and two draws). They were very strong defensively last season and cannot find the same solidity so far this year. However, they are also lacking some momentum going forward too. They have not replaced Martial and they are struggling up front. Guido Carrillo, their Argentinean recruit, started on Sunday and was dreadful, while Rony Lopes only lasted 37 minutes in midfield before being taken off by Leonardo Jardim after a terrible display. Coentrao was poor too and the absence of Toulalan in midfield is a big blow. He is still out on Thursday, as is Moutinho, but Nabil Dirar is back..
Monaco and Jardim have to find a way to get things right. And this trip to Montpellier won’t be easy. The home side are yet to win this season but they have not been dominated in any of their games. They have lacked a bit of luck and they miss a bit of confidence but they will fight hard to get out of the bad period they are going through.
Rolland Curbs, their manager, is under pressure after just one point in six Ligue 1 matches but he doesn’t want to resign and, like his players, will fight hard for better results. I think Montpellier will manage to get a draw against Monaco on Thursday at the Stade de la Mosson.
The odds are in favour of Monaco with an away win at 2.45. A draw is at 3.00 and a Montpellier home win is at 3.25.
Guido Carrillo is favourite to score first at 6.75. My best tip is a draw and both teams to score at 4.80.
Score prediction: Montpellier 1 Monaco 1 at 7.00
