Julien Laurens's Ligue 1 Betting: Marseille To Bounce Back At Nantes

Nantes 3.90 Draw 3.40 Marseille 1.96

For the first time this season, Marseille have lost two league games in a row.

After being beaten by PSG at home (3-2), they were defeated by Bordeaux away from home last weekend (1-0). They are now seven points behind the leaders Lyon and are not in the race for the title anymore.

On contrary, they will actually have to fight for third place with Monaco, St Etienne and Bordeaux. For the first time since August, Marseille are not in the Top 3 in the table and not qualifying for the Champions League next season would be dramatic for them, especially financially.

So they are under big pressure and need to bounce bak quickly but they have another tricky game this weekend. Nantes is a difficult place for l’OM. They have won only once, back in 2006, in their ten last visits to the La Beaujoire stadium.

And the team’s away form is still very much a problem: only two victories away from home since October for Marcelo Bielsa and his men. Marseille has spent the whole week complaining about poor decisions of referees against them this season. They do have a point: they should have had two penalties against PSG and Bordeaux and a goal against Lyon when the ball was over the line.

There have been more incidents and Marseille feel there is a conspiracy theory against them. In terms of team news, André Ayew is back from suspension which is great news but Dimitri Payet, the most influential player in this team this season, starts his two-match ban tonight. Benjamin Mendy is also out through injury so Nicolas Nkoulou will come back in the starting XI for his first game since January!

Michy Batshuayi will start in the number 10 role, just behind Gignac whichh is quite exciting. And as often with Marseille this season, they will have to be very careful once they lose the ball. Nantes’ plan will be to catch them on the counter. The home side is not in great form either though.

They have won only two of their last twelve games in all competitions. They are without a victory in their last three league games and they are struggling to score: only six goals in those last twelve games. Even if Marseille have kept only three clean sheets in their last eighteen games, I don’t fancy Nantes scoring.

The stadium will be packed and the atmosphere great as well which will make the players even more motivated to get a great result at home against Marseille. However, I still think that Bielsa’s men have too many qualities and that they will bounce back and win in Nantes tonight.

Best bet: André-Pierre Gignac is favourite to score first at 5.25. My best tip is Marseille to win without conceding a goal at 3.15

Score prediction: Nantes 0-2 Marseille 9.00
