Marseille 1.62, Draw 3.65, Lille 5.85 – Sunday 13:00 GMT
A win on Sunday afternoon and Marseille would be sure to finish 2014 at the top of the table of Ligue 1. It would be a great achievement for Marcelo Bielsa and his team after a great first half of the season. However, l’OM have to bounce back after their disappointing defeat at Monaco last weekend.
They could have been four points clear of PSG and five of Lyon before this weekend but they failed. They can’t have the same issues on Sunday. They will have to be more clinical up front to start with. And they will have to be more focused and careful defensively in the second half. They have conceded 69% of their goals so far this season in second halves of games.
It is mostly because of the high pressing game Bielsa wants them to play but it could be costly for them against a team like Lille. But they can tear apart any team very early on. For that, they will need a Dimitri Payet in better form than in the last game at Monaco where he was too disappointing. Physically, the Marseille players are struggling a bit after a lot of efforts but they will give everything for the last game of the year.
On the other hand, the visitors are slowly smiling again. After not winning a single game in almost three months, they have won two in two now in all competitions: against Toulouse in the league last weekend and in midweek against Bordeaux in the League Cup.
Their confidence is better and they have no fears before travelling to the Stade Velodrome, even if they have just won once away from home all season. But they have their goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama back. After an average start of the season, the Nigerian keeper is back to his best. He had a good game in midweek and he knows he will be busy on Sunday. But he is ready for the challenge.
he problem for Lille though will be to get goals. They have been struggling and have the worst attack of Ligue 1 with only 14 goals in 17 matches as they have a game in hand. Marseille are strong at the back and Mandanda is in form in goal too. I can’t see Lille scoring on Sunday but I can definitely see Marseille find the back of the net and get the three points.
André-Pierre Gignac is favourite to score first at 3.75 and my best tip is Marseille to win without conceding a goal at 2.43.
Score prediction: Marseille 2 Lille 0 at 7.50
Bordeaux 2.55, Draw 3.20, Lyon 2.80 – Sunday 20:00 GMT
This is the late game in France on Sunday evening and it is the game that will close 2014. It is a prestigious one between Bordeaux, 5th in the table and Lyon, 3rd.
There are only five points between the two teams so there is a lot at stake. In case of a win, Bordeaux would close the gap to just two points and could then dream again of finishing in 3rd place at the end of the season and qualify for the Champions League. If they want to achieve it, they will have to beat Lyon on Sunday.
The game is sold out and the atmosphere will be great but the team has lost some momentum recently. They lost at Nantes last weekend and they were knocked out of the League Cup by Lille on Wednesday on penalties. But they usually perform well at home where they have the fourth best record in the league and are still unbeaten.
In Thomas Touré, they have a man in form up front. He has just signed a new contract and is full of confidence. His partnership with Cheick Diabaté will be a threat to the Lyon defence.
For the visitors, the League Cup was also bad in midweek as they also lost and also on penalties, against Monaco this time. However, they have been doing well in the league recently. They have lost just once in their last 14 league games. It was against St Etienne in the big derby du Rhone but since then they have won their last three.
They were unlucky to lose to Monaco on penalties in midweek but this is a crucial trip for them. They managed to stick with Marseille and PSG so far in the table. Lyon are 3rd, only a point behind the Champions and two behind the leaders. They owe it massively to Alexandre Lacazette who has scored 15 goals in 18 league matches so far. But their form away from home is a concern. They have only won twice away from Gerland this season in eight league games. Bordeaux will prove to be a tough opposition and I think Lyon will have to share points with them.
Lacazette is favourite to score first at 4.50. My best tip is a draw with both teams to score at 4.40.
Score prediction: Bordeaux 1 Lyon 1 at 6.50
