Bastia 8.00, Draw 4.50, PSG 1.40 – Saturday 16.00 GMT
PSG started 2015 in the best way possible with a convincing win away at Montpellier in the French Cup last Monday. It has been a very eventful winter break for the champions. First Laurent Blanc has announced that he will be tougher on his players until the end of the season and that no privileges will be allowed anymore. Then Lavezzi and Cavani came back late from their winter holidays.
They have been suspended and fined by the club and will both miss the visit of Bastia on Saturday. The first half of the season has been very disappointing for PSG. They are only third in the table and have under-achieved and under performed behind Lyon and Marseille. Their key players like Motta, Silva, Ibrahimovic and Cavani have been average and the lack of motivation and commitment, especially in the league, has cost the team points in the table.
Blanc and the players want things to change and this game at Bastia will be a good indication on their new mindset and attitude. Corsica is never an easy place to go but the Parisians have always been strong there in recent years. They have won there in their last four visits and have lost just once in eight trips to Furiani. Apart from Lavezzi and Cavani, Serge Aurier is away at the African Cup of Nations and Jean-Christophe Bahebeck is out. Thiago Motta is still a doubt for this game while Salvatore Sirigu should be fit. Everybody else is fit though.
Ibrahimovic started the year with a goal, like Lucas, and they will lead the team on Saturday. They could be six points behind Marseille at kick-off so the pressure would be massive on them to deliver.
Bastia are still in the bottom three (second from bottom) but they are going through a very good run lately. They are unbeaten in their last four games in all competitions with three wins and a draw. They started 2015 very well last weekend with a win against Lille (2-0) in the French Cup. Ghislain Printant, their interim manager who replaced Claude Makelele after 12 games this season, is doing a good job.
The team is playing better and they are gaining confidence and momentum too. The stadium will be packed and the atmosphere will be electric. But I don’t think it will be enough though on Saturday against PSG. They will defend deep to get at least a draw but the Champions should win this game.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is favourite to score first at 3.25 and my best tip is under 1.5 goals scored at 3.65.
Score prediction: Bastia 0 PSG 1 at 6.10
