Laurens' Ligue 1 Betting: Zlatan & Co. To Bounce Back At Home

PSG 1.26, Draw 5.50, Montpellier 12.00  - Saturday 16:00 GMT

PSG lost their first league game of the season last weekend, away at Guingamp (1-0). It happened three days after the loss against Barcelona in the Champions League but it was a much bigger blow this time. It was a disgraceful performance by the champions who didn’t deserve anything else than to be beaten. The Parisians bounced back in midweek in the League Cup with a win at second division Ajaccio but it was not convincing at all. PSG went behind and only made the difference in the last 10 minutes. And once again, the quality was poor.

However, Laurent Blanc rotated a lot his squad which means that Ibrahimovic, Silva, Verratti or Maxwell all rested for Saturday’s game against Montpellier. It is the last game of 2014, at home as well. Paris need a win to end the year well and to stay in touch with Marseille at the top. They cannot afford another defeat after Guingamp.

Blanc is still under big pressure, even after the Ajaccio win, dropping points on Saturday would make his position at the club even more difficult than it already is. The manager will probably have to do without Lavezzi and Pastore for this game but everybody else will be available. It means he will be able to field a very strong team. The players are highly motivated and will want to show that the Guingamp defeat was just an accident. PSG have lost only once at home against Montpellier in the league in their last 6 encounters. They have won the last two as well. They are obviously still unbeaten at home to this season in all competitions, and the focus will be there too, which is not always the case in the some league games.

For Montpellier, 9th in the table, it is a mountain to climb. They have been very inconsistent this season. Courbis’ men were capable of winning at Marseille and at Rennes, but were also hammered at Lyon and lost at Bastia and against Ajaccio in the Cup. You never know what to expect with them. However, they have in-form forwards like Mounier who is their best player at the moment (five goals, five assists already this season).

They will also have nothing to lose. No one expects them to even get a draw at the Parc des Princes. So they will play freely and with a lot of motivation. But I don’t think it will be enough. I think PSG will be too strong for them on Saturday.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is favourite to score first at 3.05 and my best tip is PSG to win both halves at 2.55.

Score prediction: PSG 3 Montpellier 0 at 7.50
