Monaco 1.60, Draw 3.80, Caen 5.75 – Saturday 19.00 GMT
Monaco have failed to win their last two league games now with two draws against Reims (1-1) and St Etienne (1-1). In between, they also lost at Benfica (1-0) in the Champions League despite deserving at least a point, if not three. They need to get back to winning ways now, and Caen is the perfect opponent.
The club is embroiled in a match-fixing scandal in France from when they were in the second division last season. The owner was arrested before being released and the sporting director and the manager have been interviewed by the police. It is not the best preparation for such a big game away from home.
Caen are 17th in the table at the moment. They have only won one of their last 10 league games and it was at home against Lorient, bottom of the table. The players have lost all confidence and are all over the place defensively with eight goals conceded in their last three matches. They will find it tough in Monaco, even if they will go there to defend.
The home side, with Dimitar Berbatov back from injury, will be highly motivated for this game. They are unbeaten in Ligue 1 since the end of September and they are in eighth place, just seven points away from Lyon in third. It is not too much. But they need to start taking three points against small teams like Caen.
So far, they dropped points against Lorient, Nice and Reims. With Nantes playing St Etienne and Marseille facing Bordeaux, a win on Saturday would be a great opportunity to come back in the fight for the European places, and I don’t think they will let this chance slip. Despite the last three results, they have been playing better.
Ferreira-Carrasco is on fire and the return of Berbatov is a positive thing. Kurzawa is out though after getting injured with France against Sweden on Tuesday evening. It is a big blow for the team.
Berbatov is favourite to score first at 4.40, but my best tip is Monaco to win without conceding a goal at 2.33.
Score prediction: Monaco 2 Caen 0 at 7.00
