Guingamp 7.75 Draw 4.20 PSG 1.45
PSG had a bad week in Europe as they lost their first game of the season in all competitions away at Barcelona in midweek in the Champions League.
It was a disappointing result and performance, especially by Laurent Blanc who made the wrong calls during the game. He is under huge pressure after this loss and this game away at Guingamp on Sunday has suddenly become massive.
The Champions are still a point behind the leaders Marseille and this is their opportunity to overtake them before their clash at Monaco later on Sunday. But the defeat at Barcelona was a big blow and PSG are not the best form before travelling to Guingamp for a tricky game.
There were a lot of disappointments in midweek, apart from Blanc: Motta, Silva, Luiz or Cavani didn’t perform well enough. Lucas was very active but lacked end product once again. Ibrahimovic scored his team’s goal but also disappeared quickly from the game.
The Parisians have to bounce back this weekend to try to forget about another big european test failed. But it won't be easy for them over there at the Stade du Roudourou. PSG have only once twice in eight visits in their history, conceded five draws and just one defeat. Last season, Alex saved his team at the last minute.
On top of this bad record, Guingamp are in top form at the moment. First, they won their last two league games to climb out of the bottom three. Then they also qualified for the last 32 of the Europa League in midweek with a win away at PAOK, leaders in the Greek league.
It is a proper fairytale as it is a town of 8 000 habitants. They are still fighting against relegation (currently 16th) but they have a lot of confidence and momentum now. Claudio Beauvue is their man in form. He scored a brace in Europe on Thursday. He will cause problems to the PSG defence if they give him too much space.
On the other hand, defensively, it is a bit more difficult for Guingamp but they will have nothing to lose and no pressure against PSG either on Sunday. I think they will frustrate the Champions and get a point out of the game.
Best bet: A draw and both teams to score at 6.10
Score prediction: Guingamp 1-1 PSG at 8.50
Lille 2.10 Draw 3.10 Toulouse 4.00
Lille are in full crisis mode right now after yet another defeat in midweek in the Europa League 3-0 at home to Wolfsburg.
They were humiliated by the efficiency of the Germans and after the game, the fans called for the manager René Girard to be sacked. He is still in charge and time is running out for him to turn things round. His team is not responding anymore to his methods and he is not finding the answers either. Lille have not won in all competitions for almost three months!
They are 15th in the league table, only three points clear of the relegation zone (with a game in hand). Last weekend, they conceded a last minute equaliser against arch rivals Lens, which proves their fragility at the moment. They have lost all confidence and momentum. They are struggling to score goals and their defence, their main strength last season, is poor.
They are at home again on Sunday but the stadium will be very hostile, especially towards the manager, who is seen as the main reason for the downfall of a team that finished 3rd last season.
The only positive thing going into this game is that Lille’s home record against Toulouse is pretty good. They have lost just once in their last ten visits and have won their last four games against them.
The problem for Toulouse is that you never know what kind of performance they will put on. They are the most inconsistent team of the league. They won their last away game, at Nantes (2-1) a couple of weeks ago, but they have also been beaten at home by Lens earlier in the season. They were defeated by Monaco last weekend at home and they need a positive result tomorrow in Lille.
They know it is the right time to play them as they are on a really bad run of results. Toulouse didn’t play in Europe in midweek though and they will be fresher than the hosts. I think they can snatch a point in this game.
Best bet: Wissam Ben Yedder to score at 3.55
Score prediction: Lille 1-1 Toulouse at 6.75
Monaco 2.70 Draw 3.20 Marseille 2.70
This is one of the biggest rivalries in French football.
Since the end of the 80s and start of the 90s, those two clubs are rivals. There is a big history between the two and it is, in a way, one of the many derbies of the Mediterranée, even if there is still 200 kilometres between the two cities. However, the two clubs don’t like each other, because of the past, but also because of the fact they are not competing again for the same trophies.
Monaco did really well in Europe in midweek by topping their Champions League group and qualifying for the next round of the competition. They have been very solid in Europe and they deserved to go through. It is a big boost of confidence and of momentum as well for Monaco. They have struggled a bit at times in the league, despite being 7th in the table and only seven points away from third place Lyon. Their European success will help them in the league for sure and this is a massive game for them to try to bridge the cap on the Top 3 finish.
The big blow for them is the injury of Dimitar Berbatov. He has a thigh problem and he will miss the game. Without him, it is not the same Monaco team. It will be more difficult now but Monaco have a big belief now. However, apart from their league win last season (2-0), they are usually really poor against Marseille at the Stade Louis II: they lost four and drew one in their last previous four home games against l’OM.
For the leaders, it is a tricky game. They know Monaco will be really up for it and that it will be a proper fight, everywhere on the pitch. So they have to be ready for it.
They have trained well this week, with no European game, and that will play its part on Sunday. They will be fresher and most importantly, they also have a lot of confidence. After a tough end of November, they are back on track with two league wins in two.
They look sharp, Gignac and Payet are on fired and Mandanda is super solid at the back. I think that Leonardo Jardim and his Monaco team will adapt themselves to the opposition, they will defend deep and play on the counter which could work considering the last of pace of the Marseille defence. I can see a draw there.
Best bet: A draw and both teams to score at 4.50
Score prediction: Monaco 1-1 Marseille at 6.50
