Monaco 1.62, draw 3.70, Guingamp 5.80 – Sunday 16:00 GMT
Monaco are hoping that they have finally kicked off their season on Tuesday with a crucial 1-0 win in the Champions League against Bayer Leverkusen. After a poor start in the league, they had to show character in Europe, which they did.
They rode their luck a bit but this victory has been a massive boost for them, in terms of confidence and momentum. They kept a clean sheet as well and there were a lot of positives to take from the game for Leonardo Jardim, the manager. However, everything was not perfect as they still conceded a few chances and looked really vulnerable at the back.
The pressure is still there though as Monaco are only 19th in Ligue 1. They need to react in the league and bounce back after three defeats in their opening five league games. They are playing a six-pointer on Sunday at home against Guingamp. They cannot afford another slip up for sure. They want to keep the momentum gained from their victory against Bayer and try to get back quickly to the top half of the table.
The visitors are only 16th but they beat Bordeaux last weekend to get their first win of the season. So it will not be an easy game for Monaco, even at home. Last season, they could only drew with L’En Avant (1-1).
The good thing for Jardim’s men is that Guingamp are playing in the Europa League this season after their Cup triumph last season. They travelled to Fiorentina on Thursday when Monaco played Bayer on Tuesday. So the hosts should be fresher and overall, I think the win in the Champions League has really given them a massive boost and that we will see a much better and improved Monaco team on Sunday.
Guingamp, only three days after their Europa League debut, will not be strong enough to get something from this game.
Dimitar Berbatov is favourite to score first at 4.40 but my best tip is Monaco to win and keep a clean sheet at 2.38.
Score prediction: Monaco 2 Guingamp 0 at 7.50
PSG 1.31, draw 5.00, Lyon 10.50 – Sunday 20.00 GMT
What is going on in Paris? The champions are unrecognisable. On Wednesday at Ajax in the Champions League, they drew for the fourth time in four games away from home this season in all competitions. Once again, they were one nil up, like at Rennes last weekend, and once again they let the opponents come back in the game.
Their home form is better though with two wins in two games, but like Zlatan Ibrahimovic himself said after the Ajax game, they need to wake up and start playing at their best level again.
The players were once again far too complacent in Amsterdam. They have been underperforming since the start of the season and it is not good enough. Laurent Blanc is also under massive scrutiny and criticism after failing, yet again, to have any sort of influence on the game when things became difficult for his team.
Suddenly, this game against Lyon at home on Sunday evening has become massive. It is always a big clash between the two biggest cities in France, even despite Lyon’s poor start of the season, but PSG cannot afford not to win. They are under massive pressure. At least Blanc will have a full squad to choose from.
On the other hand, Lyon had their confidence boosted by their win against Monaco last weekend. They are still missing some key players but they will travel to Paris with no pressure. They are a young team with nothing to lose. No one expects them to get even a point at the Parc des Princes, so they are convinced that they can take advantage of the situation and cause more misery to PSG.
However, I think that Paris will finally wake up and react after a very average start of the season. They will play better and up their game on Sunday, at home.
Ibra is favourite to score first at 3.20 but my best tip is PSG to win both halves at 3.15.
Score prediction: PSG 3 Lyon 0 at 9.50
