Lyon 2.50, draw 3.05, Monaco 3.00 – Friday 19.30 GMT
It is only Week 5 in France but this is already a crucial game for Lyon. They have lost their last three league games and are struggling in 17th place in the table. They cannot afford another defeat, especially at home and especially before travelling to Paris to face PSG next weekend.
The pressure is massive on the manager Hubert Fournier, who was only appointed in the summer, but who is looking more and more out of his depth. He has been very unlucky with injuries as up to 10 first team players were out in the last few weeks. Thankfully for Lyon, some are coming back like Samuel Umtiti, Nabil Fékir and Yoann Gourcuff, who are all in the squad for the game and could all start.
But the Lyon players have lost all confidence. The only Gone to have performed at a decent level since the start of the season is Alexandre Lacazette, OL’s best player by far with three league goals already. The team and the fans will have to rely on him once again but he will need a better collective around him to make a difference.
The dynamic is a bit the same for Monaco. The Monégasques have also struggled since the start of the season. After two defeats in the first two games (against Lorient and at Bordeaux), they got their first points of the campaign with a win against Nantes and a draw against Lille. But you expect more from them.
Leonardo Jardim, the new manager, is finding it difficult to get his message and his methods through to the players. With the departures of James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao, the team is weakened compared to last season for example.
Still, Monaco should do better and this is another big game for them. Like Lyon, they can’t afford to lose it. That’s why I think the two teams will be quite cautious and the match will end in a draw.
Lacazette is favourite to score first at 5.50. My best tip is a draw at half-time and at full-time at 4.20.
Score prediction: Lyon 1 Monaco 1 at 6.30
