It’s a case of the haves versus the have-nots in the Premier League on Sunday, as two teams more used to plying their trade in the Champions League host sides who are desperate to avoid dropping into the Championship.
Arsenal host West Brom and the Emirates Stadium, before Chelsea bid to put European disappointment behind them when Norwich come to Stamford Bridge. Here’s Mark Jones with his betting recommendations:
Arsenal v West Brom: Arsenal (-1) to win – 1.68
With a Champions League place within his grasp again, Arsene Wenger won’t be in any mood to see his side slip up.
He’ll be drumming it into his players that they need to win this clash and win it well, and they should sweep to a comfortable victory against opponents who are frequently non-threatening on the road.
Chelsea v Norwich: Chelsea to win to nil – 1.83
Chelsea’s defensive solidity may have deserted them in the Champions League in midweek, but against the also-rans of the Premier League they are still second to none when it comes to keeping teams out.
John Terry’s return should help keep a clean sheet against a Norwich side who were pretty impotent at Manchester United last weekend.
Arsenal v West Brom: Arsenal to score over 2.5 goals – 2.04
A surprisingly generous price here given that the Gunners managed to find the net three times in their last three matches against West Ham, Hull and Newcastle respectively.
West Brom have conceded three in three of their last five too, giving this the look of a banker.
Chelsea v Norwich: Eden Hazard to score at any time – 2.30
After criticism from his manager this week, Belgian star Eden Hazard will be eager to prove just how important he is to his team and why his fellow professionals saw fit to vote for him as the PFA Young Player of the Year this season.
He’ll be desperate to impress in front of the watching cameras, and looks a good shout to score at any time against the Canaries.
Arsenal v West Brom: Mesut Ozil to score at any time – 3.20
As he bids to rediscover some of his best form ahead of the World Cup, Germany’s Mesut Ozil was impressive in the Monday night win over Newcastle, a performance rounded off with a close range finish just before half-time.
He’s likely to have more chances against the Baggies, and he can pop up with another goal as an up-and-down first season in England draws to a close.
Chelsea v Norwich: Over 4.5 goals – 3.95
This bet would have landed in Norwich’s 3-2 loss at home to Liverpool recently, whilst it came pretty close at Old Trafford last weekend too.
Chelsea will be determined to hit the goal trail following the Atletico Madrid defeat and recent accusations of being boring, and so that could lead to them looking to blow their opponents away at Stamford Bridge.
