Even if you were Brendan Rodgers' biggest fan, even if you are not a Liverpool supporter, you have to be excited about the potential of Jurgen Klopp strutting his stuff in England. The affable German has become infamous for his array of one liners and from a media perspective he is set to be a wonderful addition to the pool of Premier League managers, so much so he may even fill the void left by the man he is set to replace.
However, there is more to the former Mainz boss than simple humour and witt. His dealings with the media may not be planned with Mourinho-like precision but his creative use of language will only serve to increase his aura on Merseyside and rile his opponents. It's the perfect storm as far as Liverpool are concerned.
He Thinks He's A Saviour
When Klopp is finally unveiled at Anfield he is destined to have to work under restrictions, something he did admirably at Dortmund. He even outlined the artillery at his and Bayern’s disposal as he portrayed himself as a man stealing from the rich to help the poor. The Reds need a hero, whether Klopp in green tights is the one is still to be determined.
“We have a bow and arrow and if we aim well, we can hit the target. The problem is that Bayern has a bazooka. But then Robin Hood was quite successful.”
He’s Very Easy To Like
Being described as an ‘arse’ by your manager Is rarely a compliment but with Klopp, expect the unexpected. He heaped praise on Henrikh Mkhitaryan when he signed him with this derriere-related gem. Thankfully there are a few players at Liverpool who have been mentioned in the same breath as that part of the anatomy.
“Mkhitaryan fits us like an arse on a bucket. What he offers is exactly what we need.”
He Loves Football More Than Anything
Another thing that Liverpool supporters are going to thrive on is the way that Klopp enjoys the game. He is arguably the manager who revels in the joy of football more than any other. Just as Jose Mourinho is falling out of favour with the media, Klopp is set to be taken to the hearts of the nation
He Likes Subtly Antagonising Rivals
The former Dortmund boss was no stranger to taking swipes at their biggest rivals over in Munich and it is little digs like this that will have Louis van Gaal nervous and Liverpool supporters excited.
“At the moment, they (Bayern) are like the Chinese in the business world. They look at what others are doing and copy it, just with more money.”
Klopp has already had a sly dig at Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, taking a swipe at both the Gunners’ boss’ taste in music and his style of football.
“He likes having the ball, playing football, passes. It’s like an orchestra. But it’s a silent song. I like heavy metal.”
