Premier League betting: Final day matches previewed

The final day matches at Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham are all previewed in Mark Jones’ ‘6 Best Bets’ piece here, so let Matthew Harris be your guide to the other seven games on Sunday as the 2013/14 campaign draws to a close.

Cardiff City 8.25, the draw 4.90, Chelsea 1.37

This game could have had so much riding on it but results last weekend effectively mean that neither side has anything to play for. Theoretically, Chelsea could finish second but third is virtually certain and it could lead to a subdued afternoon.

Having lost to Crystal Palace and Aston Villa in recent weeks, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Chelsea lose but an away win is the safer bet with both teams to score at 1.68.

Score Prediction: Cardiff City 1-3 Chelsea (10.00)

Fulham 2.60, the draw 3.40, Crystal Palace 2.65

Palace are also safe after an incredible run of results but Tony Pulis’ men are not sitting back, as Monday’s result against Liverpool proved. That should lead to a difficult afternoon for Fulham who were relegated last week after losing at Stoke.

End of season matches can be so tough to call but I would go with form on this one and back the Eagles to win it with an anytime goal for Jason Puncheon at 4.00.

Score Prediction: Fulham 1-2 Crystal Palace (9.50)

Hull City 3.65, the draw 3.50, Everton 2.00

Everton are just three points clear of Spurs but Tottenham’s goal difference is better suited to a lower mid-table club so the Toffees are guaranteed fifth place. Hull will be looking ahead towards next week’s FA Cup final and while their form in the league is poor, a subdued atmosphere should lead to a drawn game.

I’m backing the teams to share the points and it won’t be pretty so add under 2.5 goals at 2.12.

Score Prediction: Hull City 1-1 Everton (7.00)

Norwich City 4.10, the draw 3.80, Arsenal 1.80

Inferior goal difference means that Norwich are certain to be relegated but that faint mathematical possibility might lead to an open and entertaining game. Arsenal will be keen to end their season on a positive note after surrendering their lead at the top and their greater quality should seal the three points.

Unlike some of these matches, there is a little to play for so the game should go to Arsenal with Lukas Podolski scoring in 90 minutes at 2.80.

Score Prediction: Norwich City 1-4 Arsenal (22.00)

Southampton 2.50, the draw 3.50, Manchester United 2.65

I keep saying that end of season games are the toughest of all to predict and if it sounds like I’m getting my excuses in early I’d like to point to the final game of 2012-13 when West Brom and Manchester United drew 5-5.

Both teams have mixed form coming into this match but it’s worth noting that the Saints have conceded just once in their last four league matches. It may not end 5-5 but another high scoring draw may be in prospect with over 2.5 goals a fairly safe bet at 1.70.

Score Prediction: Southampton 2-2 Manchester United (11.00)

Sunderland 2.20, the draw 3.40, Swansea City 3.25

Sunderland may be safe but like Crystal Palace, I expect Gus Poyet’s side to maintain their form and to take the points from a Swansea side who have been poor for most of the campaign. Connor Wickham has been at the heart of the Black Cats’ resurgence and I’m backing the former Ipswich man to score at 2.70 in what should be a comfortable win.

The Swans have taken points away from Arsenal and Newcastle in recent weeks but at the end of a difficult campaign, I can’t see the visitors putting up too much resistance.

Score Prediction: Sunderland 2-0 Swansea City (11.00)

West Brom 2.00, the draw 3.50, Stoke City 3.60

While the Baggies are essentially safe, they need just a point to guarantee survival and I expect them to get that against a Stoke side who are considerably weaker away from home.

This is another final day game set to be played out in a subdued atmosphere so back a low scoring draw with under 2.50 goals at 1.94.

Score Prediction West Brom 0-0 Stoke City (11.00)
