Premier League Betting: Reading v Arsenal - Fan v Fan Preview

Reading perspective: Dan Wimbush, the Tileshurst End

Team news

A threadbare squad travelled to the Stadium of Light and when you factor in Danny Guthrie's well publicised refusal to travel, it saw two academy products on the bench in the North East. There's a chance that two or three of the missing will come back but this is going to be one of those games where we won't really know the team until 7 o'clock on Monday night.

Form

It's safe to say that Reading have hit rock bottom after five straight defeats and a 3-0 mauling at Sunderland. To lose gallantly 4-3 to Manchester United is one thing but the meek surrender at Southampton and Sunderland was just unacceptable and Brian McDermott needs a reaction fast if we're to mount any sort of challenge to stay up.

Head-to-Head

Our record at home to Arsenal is just dire. We've never beaten the Gunners and they've scored no fewer than three goals on their previous three visits, including the memorable seven in the League Cup a few weeks back.

Best Bets:

Over 3.5 goals at 2.40 – there may not be 12 goals but it should be another open game.

Both teams to score at 1.57

Adam le Fondre to score anytime at 4.00

Score Prediction: Reading 1-3 Arsenal (12.50)

Team News

It's unclear yet whether Theo Walcott will be fit to play once again, but it seems unlikely.  The good news for Arsenal is that French duo Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud will both be back in the squad, although I don't expect the former to start after he had a nightmarish display at the Madjeski earlier this season.

Form

Arsenal come in to the game on the back of the worst result of Arsene Wenger's reign.  Their league form has been patchy too, although a trip away from home should be a welcome respite from their travails at the Emirates.  Pressure is mounting on the manager and a positive result is needed against a resilient Reading side.

Head-to-head

In years to come we'll remember this fixture for the extraordinary Capital One Cup tie of earlier this season.  Reading gave Arsenal the fright of their lives, and they'll be hoping to exploit the Gunners' vulnerability on crosses all over again.

Best Bets

Over 4.5 goals at 4.50 - There were 12 goals in the last meeting between these two, so five doesn't seem too many to ask for!

Rosicky last goal at 16.00 - He's unlikely to start the game but why not have a bet on him grabbing the last goal after coming off the bench.

Reading to lead at half-time then lose at 22.00

Score Prediction: Reading 2-3 Arsenal (19.00)
