Wigan perspective: Paul Farrington, Wiganer.net
Our team could be very interesting for this one. The cup victory over Everton has put the cat amongst the pigeons, as the fringe players really impressed in that game. Joel Robles put in a sterling performance in goal and will challenge Ali Al-Habsi for his place whilst Callum McManaman adds natural flair to our forward play.
Our away form has been substantially better than our home form. We struggle pick up anything at the DW; we cannot score and seem to conceed goals for fun. Away from home it is a different story: we've put three past Reading and Everton in recent away day trips. The cup win has really got the team and town buzzing for the survival fight, however.
Our contests with Newcastle are usually entertaining affairs and we have a good history against the Magpies. We really need to kick on towards survival and Sunday afternoon is a good opportunity to get the right result against a team tired from European commitments.
Callum McManaman to score first at 8.00. The youngster is full of energy and should be a threat if he starts
Over 2.5 goals at 1.74. Our games with Newcastle are usually exciting contests.
Wigan to win at 2.25. Hopefully our win over Everton will be the catalyst for a strong run.
Score prediction: Wigan 2-1 Newcastle (9.25)
Newcastle perspective: Mark Jensen, The Mag
Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa look to be struggling to make this one but Yoan Gouffran and Mathieu Debuchy will return. James Perch, Shola Ameobi and Gabriel Obertan are options if the manager freshens things up after the Europa League match on Thursday.
We've lost only once in the seven matches in all competitions, although the last two defeats have come away in the Premier League, despite decent performances. We have also become more resilient, coming back from a losing position three times in recent matches.
We've only picked up one win in seven visits to Wigan, failing to score in five of those. The only bright spot was Shola Ameobi scoring in a 1-0 win two season ago.
Yoan Gouffran to score first at 8.25. The Frenchman is always a threat on the break and could enjoy facing a back three.
Newcastle to win without conceding at 5.5. Our defence looked solid against Anzhi, so we should keep Wigan out.
Newcastle/Newcastle HT/FT at 8.00. I'd like an early goal to settle nerves at the DW Stadium.
Score prediction: Wigan 0-1 Newcastle (12.50)
