Today we look at Chelsea’s attempts to sign Radamel Falcao, Manchester United’s interest in two midfielders and Real Madrid’s pursuit of Luis Suarez...
Chelsea will have to pay £80m for Radamel Falcao, or offer Fernando Torres or Demba Ba in part-exchange.
Why it will happen: Chelsea have proved that money is no object when they want a player and Jose Mourinho definitely wants Falcao.
Why it won’t happen: Even Chelsea wouldn’t pay that much for a player whose birth certificate has come under scrutiny this year. As for the part-exchange rumours, you very rarely see swap deals come off.
With Arsenal showing interest in Karim Benzema, Real Madrid have targeted Luis Suarez as their priority transfer target.
Why it will happen: Suarez is in unstoppable form and would form an unplayable frontline for Madrid, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
Why it won’t happen: Suarez is playing so well that Liverpool could justifiably use the Bale transfer fee as a benchmark for his valuation. Can Real afford another £100m?
Tabloid Speculation II
Arsenal and Manchester United are ready to do battle for the Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
Why it will happen: Arsene Wenger collects midfielders like others collect stamps, while Manchester United badly need to reinforce this area.
Why it won’t happen: A counter-rumour suggests that Gundogan to Real Madrid is a done deal.
The Manchester United summer transfer target Ander Herrera has claimed that he’s staying at Athletic Bilbao.
Why it will happen: Bilbao are flying high in La Liga and could claim a Champions League place this season. United considered his buy-out clause too expensive in the summer.
Why it won’t happen: David Moyes is desperate to recruit a midfielder to save Manchester United’s season and will be willing to pay over the odds.
