Transfer News Today: Arsenal and Spurs battle for Brazilian

Today we examine Liverpool's attempts to sign another forward, London rivals battling for a Brazilian, the future of David Luiz and a young player that wants to swap Barcelona for Arsenal...

Forum chatter

Liverpool will make a £12m bid for the Basel forward Mohamed Salah

Why it will happen: Salah is a highly rated talent that has shone in Basel’s European campaigns over the past two seasons. He looks set to make the move to a major league sooner rather than later.

Why it won’t happen: Liverpool have plenty of options on the flanks and there are far more pressing concerns in their squad.

Tabloid speculation

Corinthians are ready to listen to offers for Alexandre Pato, with Arsenal and Spurs ready to do battle for the Brazilian.

Why it will happen: Pato hasn’t been a huge hit at Corinthians and with both North London clubs looking for attacking options, a deal could be struck.

Why it won’t happen: Pato is now 24 and hasn’t fulfilled the considerable promise he showed as a teenager. He would command a significant fee and you have to question whether his performances over the past couple of seasons would justify such expenditure.

No deal

Jose Mourinho has ruled out selling David Luiz to Barcelona in January.

Why it will happen: A summer move is far more likely. Chelsea would struggle to replace Luiz in the January window.

Why it won’t happen: If Barcelona put in a big enough offer than Chelsea will take it. Jose Mourinho clearly isn’t sold on the player and will relish the opportunity to bring in a replacement of his choosing.

Come and get me

Barcelona’s 17-year old starlet Toni Sanabria has told the club that he wants to leave, paving the way for Arsenal to sign him.

Why it will happen: Arsenal have poached several young players from Barcelona over the years and will only have to pay £300,000 in compensation. Sanabria’s agent has admitted his player is in talks with the Gunners.

Why it won’t happen: It could just be an agent’s ploy to receive an improved contract offer from Barcelona.
