Transfer News Today: Arsenal defender set for cut-price exit?

Today’s London-centric rumours feature a double swoop from Fulham, an Arsenal defender on his way out, an exciting forward entering the Emirates and a young defender off to Chelsea

Double trouble

Fulham are ready to increase West Ham’s recent pain and take both Ravel Morrison and Mohamed Diame across London in a bargain £7.5m double deal.

Why it will happen: Fulham boss Rene Meulensteen used to work with Morrison at Manchester United, whilst Diame has a clause in his contract which allows him to leave for £3.5m.

Why it won’t happen: Such ambitious double moves rarely come off, whilst West Ham would be mad to seriously strengthen one of their relegation rivals.

Tabloid gossip

Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna will leave the Gunners in January and join Roberto Mancini’s Galatasaray for around £4m.

Why it will happen: The Frenchman’s contract runs out in the summer, and this will likely be the last chance that Arsene Wenger has of earning some money for him. The Gunners can probably upgrade too.

Why it won’t happen: Arsenal are riding high and Sagna is a regular in the team, so even if he is running his contract down then why not wait until the summer?

A vested interest

The Gunners are monitoring Roma’s 22-year-old forward Mattia Destro as they bid to put right the growing injury problems currently faced by their front men.

Why it will happen: Italian under-21 international Destro is struggling to get in the Roma side, and the Gunners are in dire need of reinforcements upfront. Even if it was just a loan move, it makes sense.

Why it won’t happen: Wenger is famously prudent with his cash and will only entertain a move that he has thoroughly researched, with this one looking little more than a stop-gap move.

Head-to-head

Chelsea are vying with Inter Milan for the signature of defender Kurt Zouma, who has been earmarked as a future France captain by national boss Didier Deschamps.

Why it will happen: The Blues need to freshen up their defence in the coming years as the likes of John Terry get older, and Zouma would fit the bill perfectly.

Why it won’t happen: Jose Mourinho has previously said that he won’t sign anyone this January, and Chelsea already have more than enough options at the back as it is.
