Transfer News Today: Arsenal Remain In The Hunt For £69.1m Forward

Gonzalo The Gunner?

Reports in Italy claim that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has moved on from his pursuit of Karim Benzema, and will console himself by triggering Gonzalo Higuain’s £69.1m Napoli release clause.

Really? Probably not, but nonetheless it is being reported. Arsenal should have brought in a forward months ago, and whilst Higuain would certainly fit the bill, he’d be unlikely now.

Martial Hearts Man Utd?

Manchester United are also desperate for a forward. So desperate, in fact, that they are prepared to offer Monaco an eye-watering £36m for their 19-year-old French forward Anthony Martial.

Who? Quite. Martial is certainly high-rated though, with comparisons to Thierry Henry in his homeland. Whichever way you look at it though, this would be an extraordinary gamble from Louis van Gaal.

Moreno To Madrid?

Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno is reportedly wanted back in his homeland by Real Madrid, who want the Spanish youngster to replace the departed Fabio Coentrao.

Interesting one. Yeah. Moreno has been surpassed by Joe Gomez in Brendan Rodgers’ plans, and if the Reds receive the £12m they paid for him from Sevilla last summer then they could do a deal.

Lamela Heading Back To Rome?

Erik Lamela’s time at Tottenham has been far from successful, and the Argentinean winger could be set for a return to former club Roma if reports are to be believed.

Hmm, that didn’t go well. No. Lamela never really settled in London, and a move back to Serie A would appear to be the best solution for all concerned.

Two In At Tottenham

And Lamela’s departure will raise funds for the double deal that Spurs are looking to complete for West Brom’s Saido Berahino and Southampton’s Victor Wanyama.

Good additions? Yeah. The pair would flesh out the Spurs squad nicely, and they certainly need a little more pace and power in both attack and midfield.
