Transfer News Today: Arsenal Step Up Pursuit Of £18.5m La Liga Star

Better Call Saul?

Reports in Spain suggest that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is again ready to move for the Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, who could have moved to the Gunners in January were it not for injuries forcing Diego Simeone to pick him in his starting XI.

Niguez, 21, is one of the most gifted young midfielders in Spain and he can also play in defence, with Wenger believing that £18.5m will be enough to snap up a player who has also interested Manchester United.

After failing to sign him in the last two transfer windows, Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be ready to complete a deal for West Brom’s Saido Berahino in the summer.

Berahino, who appears to have mended his rift with Baggies boss Tony Pulis and is now back in the Welshman’s team, will cost Spurs around £24m.

Vardy’s £30m Party

Any clubs wanting to sign the Premier League’s top scorer Jamie Vardy in the summer will have to cough up £30m, after a clause in the England forward’s new Leicester contract was revealed.

Vardy – who like his club has been one of the revelations of the season – only signed the new deal in December, but the Foxes will have no choice but to sell him should suitors such as Manchester City or Chelsea trigger the clause.
